When the RLDS church exhumed JSjr's body during the 1930's, his skull was missing most of his face from the middle of his forehead to the middle of his chin.

The LDS church claims that his face was fractured in the fall from the window and that the bones deteriorated while he was in his coffin. Hyrum was shot in the face and his skull is only missing the portion due to the bullet wound.

I'm no forensic expert, but would that really happen, all of his facial bones would deteriorate? It just seems a little too convenient that there are no bones left for any facial recognition, thus to prove his identity.

I theorize that Carthage jail was a simple plan by JoJu to get rid of Hyrum, who was blackmailing him, and to then break clear of his silly followers.

The 'face' of the body double was removed to prevent the deception from being uncovered!

JoJu then traveled to England and then on to the Continent, making his living as a translator, him and the REAL jupiter stone!

I read the Joseph Smith’s death mask was actually from Hyrum.

My guess is he was gripping those golden plates so doggedly in his teeth when the angel tried to get them that ... well, you know.

I've often wondered about the death mask. I can't find the drawing used when he ran for president. Mormons have flooded the internet with depictions of Good Looking Joseph.

I agree with the comments to Steve's post, he was elevated after death.

In a way, it's not good to 'speak ill of the dead', but me: Speaking the Truth / Facts about what someone <living or dead> has done (or not done) isn't precisely speaking ill of the dead.
