The reason for the creation and use of eunuchs was like the celibacy rules for Catholic priests. In both cases you had powerful and rich organizations and a temptation for officials/priests to marry and pass on their status and power to their descendants. Emasculation prevented that; it created a mandarin class that had no immediate family and descendants to enrich.

The fact that eunuchs could sing was an unintended benefit of a barbarous practice for Europe.
