UPDATE: Pearl River church's altar removed, burned after priest, dominatrices allegedly had sex on it

https://www.nola.com/news/crime_police/article_828bb53e-09ad-11eb-9c98-fbed3af1d69a.html

The lights inside Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Pearl River were on later than usual on Sept. 30, so a passerby stopped to take a closer look.

Peering inside, the onlooker saw the small parish's pastor half-naked having sex with two women on the altar, according to court documents. The women were dressed in corsets and high-heeled boots. There were sex toys and stage lighting. And a mobile phone as well as a separate camera were mounted on tripods, recording it all.

The eyewitness took a video and called the Pearl River police, who arrived at the church and viewed that recording. Officers then arrested the Rev. Travis Clark, pastor of Saints Peter and Paul since 2019, on obscenity charges.

The Archdiocese of New Orleans announced the priest's arrest Oct. 1 but would not give specifics about why he was arrested. Nor would the police.

New details, however, have emerged in court filings that paint a lurid picture of a priest recording himself engaged in sexual role play while desecrating a sacred place within the church. Public records additionally show that one of the women, Mindy Dixon, 41, is an adult film actor who also works for hire as a dominatrix. On a social media account associated with Dixon, a Sept. 29 post says she was on her way to the New Orleans area to meet another dominatrix "and defile a house of God."

On a bright note, the priest was having sex with consenting adults. That represents progress, right?

Chortle! I suppose that is progress.

And these are things that we hear about.
What about the stuff that we don't hear about. Not necessarily sexual things. People go and confess things from their private lives to these priests. What do they do with that information? Who knows.

400 years ago, the priest would have been removed and burned.

How is having sex with consulting adults in a privately owned building obscenity?

Someone above made the predictable speculation “imagine what the other priests are doing” or some such.

I would imagine many, many other priests are abiding by their vows and remaining celibate because keeping their word means something to them.

Hardly seems "public" if you have to go out of your way to peer into a window. Perhaps the passerby should be arrested for being a peeping Tom.

One whole person had their delicate sensibilities offended. I predict the criminal charges will be dropped. With the virus and the hurricanes, Louisiana courts have more important issues to deal with.

As I usually preface, legal language, laws and standards vary from jurisdiction to jurisidiction. The way I learned it is: "Would an ordinary person, going about his ordinary business, be offended by the act?" If that can be reasonably presented, then much depends upon how the police report and charge documents are written, then argued.

So: a person walking on a sidewalk looks into a building and sees sex. That would be a pretty strong case.

A person walks onto church property, looks into a window, and sees sex. Not so strong. What was that person's business on the property?

Then there are issues of whether genitalia were actually observed, or assumed to be involved.

On a slight sidenote: Hitchcock and a censor(s?) went through the shower scene in "Psycho" frame by frame--literally. They removed all nudity and actual violence (knife-to-flesh). Yet it was one of the most sexually and violently graphic scenes ever done.

Why didn't they just lock the doors and block the windows first? Could there be some exhibitionism at work here also? Some day, that video will probably show up online somewhere. This instance is just one more example of how religion and religious oppression warps the mind. There is nothing wrong with the sex play. But using paid sex workers and doing it on an altar in a church and where passers-by can see, is just plain weird and self-destructive. One has to ask themselves "why not just leave the religion if you don't believe in it?". Of course, a lot of mormons are the same way. But most of them would lock the doors and block the windows and no one would ever know.

"One has to ask themselves "why not just leave the religion if you don't believe in it?"."

==Do you mean leave the church and do some other job?

Yes, there are a lot of atheist priests apparently. One of them appeared on one of the Richard Dawkins interview. The priests even said that the customers know that he is an atheist and they are comfortable with that.

I think there is a project called Project Clergy. A lot of these guys don't have any other skills, nothing much to put on their CV. So, they sit still and give lip service and collect a pay check at least.

To the parishioners, I imagine their take is that the priest defiled the altar, which is where Holy Communion is celebrated (by said priest and/or others).

So there's that.

IMO, Catholic Priest too-often get into sexual problems because they are supposed to live a celeb-et life--and that kind of life therefore creates a natural urge/temptation for sex. I have often read stories about priests and nuns who aren't able to do-without.

Sad.

Ever read "The Nuns Story"? This proves the point.

I heard life creates a natural urge/temptation for sex.

I never knew a priest who took his vow of celibacy with a gun to his head.

Here's what might have happened.

The three met on a site called fetlife. It's for people with fetishes, hence the fet. :/

The dommes are from Delaware and Washington State, and the priest lives in Louisiana. That's a huge geographic love triangle.

They had camera equipment set up and a phone. I don't remember reading anything about them wearing masks or trying to disguise their identities - maybe I missed it.

Anyway

there's a large market for private porn. Not the amateur stuff that gets posted online - that's a huge market, too. But there are people out there who choose people to be filmed and those films stay in their private porn collections.

If my assumptions, and they're huge assumptions, are correct, the phone was probably for live streaming for the client - possibly for them to receive directions, and the video camera was for raw (heh) footage to be edited later.

Sad when this is seen as more heinous than molesting the altar boys in the back.

Exactly.

I thought I'd posted this before, but if the sex were between the priest and an altar boy rather than dominatrices, the church would have covered it all up.
