As long as you are willing and able you don't actually need to help the poor and be united in obeying the law of consecration. Brigham Young and Dallin Oaks fixed up Mormonism to be less socialistic.

The men who worship with them like Oaks will "shown God that we are willing and able to" live their so-called higher Celestial Law(s) and but not be able to nor have any desires in that direction. They will not give all they have to the poor and be special witnesses for Jesus. And they will throw out useless platitudes semiannually to succor their real poor - those Mormons poor in spirit who need words to attempt to "choose the right" in a vane attempt to show these oligarchs that they are "are willing and able."
