Oh my goodness - I'm reminiscing here and this is kind of on topic because I never sang so well in the mormon church.
In 1929 a group of local schoolchildren made a record. This sold a million copies; a great deal for those days.
During my schooldays our choir was forced to try and emulate these lovely children, who had performed in Manchester's Free Trade Hall, live, with the Halle Orchestra. Quite an act to follow but we sang our hearts out and loved every note.
This year is the 80th Anniversary of the release and it is being celebrated at the Manchester International Festival here in the UK - I will be there:
