Fond Memories of Mormon Inspiration from 1837!

About this time of year (EOD & I recall!) the Kirtland Anti-BANKing & Safety Society kerfunkle unfolded.


Joe & his co-conspirators requested a Bank Charter from the state of OHIO. This was a time before uniform currency was the law in the U.S....

their request was Denied, but ChurchCo had already paid to have printing plates made in Philadelphia...

What to do?

Magical Thinking to the Rescue! We'll change the name of our 'Bank'!!

We'll call it the Kirtland ANTI-BANKING SAFETY SOCIETY!

by filling in & around the word "BANK" on the plates & paper currency, we'll make it 'legal'!!

The accurate accounting of how much investor's $ was lost (into Joey's pocket) may never be known, the best documentation is probably in the court records of Geuga County (still remain?), but we know that 'Where's Waldo' Joe Smith spent a great deal of time away from Kirtland avoiding Summons' to be served by the Sheriff (name lost to history)

such is the pattern started by Mormon leaders, with Joey at the lead!

Which cost the church more gold & silver, the Kirtland anti-bank thingie, or Rusty's insistence that the word mormon be expunged from mormon vocabulary?

Some Global Faith Healers...I mean Faith Leaders are better than other Global Fleece Stealers...
