My wife has a picture of hand drawn portraits of every Mormon prophet from Smith to Hinckley - Conmen to Mad More men.

When I look at it I wonder to myself how many more "prophets" will we be out of date on this progression? I don't mention it to my wife any more than mentioning Jesus right above them on the wall. To the mantle to the wall while the sweat...er blood drips...? Shudders...

Okay, well I'm just curious. Conmen to Mad Men and Mr. Nelson is really promoting the corporation with his sculptured Christ Mormonism. When this picture is more than a couple of decades out of date how many more than 2 will be missing? How much more like Mad Men will Mormon be?

Is that the picture where they are all in white? I've seen a similar picture where the last guy was Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame.

Hinkley seems to be the first really hard hitting Mad Man of the bunch by virtue of being in front of the camera so much seeking press and really 'selling' MO'ism.
Rusty is just nuts with what he is doing. His advisers might be saying that any publicity is good publicity. I don't think that works for things like churches....just ask the Catholics.

Same one. Well, not in white but an aggregation of their official sketches.

That is where I came up with Conmen to Mad Men. Smith to Hinckley.

I think Rusty wants to be neo-Catholic so he dropped "Mormon."

What if you replaced The Progression of Prophets with a family pic of the Adamms Family ? And timed how long it took her to notice. You think she would laugh ?

Great idea. I'm going to see what happens but I think something other than the Addams. I'm going to ponderize this...

Someone should make a set of Russian nesting dolls for the LDS prophets.

Curses! Foiled again!

I know, I'll mass market church T-shits saying something like. . . "ponderize!"

that's just freaky, can you imagine in 50 years these will be haunting the front window of some antique junk shop, I was up in Logan looking around a week ago and you can buy a 1945 commemorative tea set with only a few cracks and discolorations of the salt lake temple, and the beehive.

That smile on her face is the same smile my Pop had when he got a parakeet for his birthday.

If I was a morbid person trying to piss off Mormons, I would have 17 zip lock bags on my mantle. Each one would have more shit in it than the previous bag.

"Feast your eyes on the contributions of great church leaders."

Yeah, I'm a messed up guy thanks to the church.

You have a lot of patience, Elder Berry, to have that kind of "artwork" in your home. My parents didn't have mormon stuff hanging around the house UNTIL my BIL (who is not mormon) found an antique picture of the SL temple in an oblong frame. It is a really nice and unique picture that is still in the house as my brother lives there.

My daughter doesn't even have mormon pictures hanging in her house as TBM as she likes to be.

Some homes around here have ONLY mormon things hanging on their walls. I doubt my parents even knew about the proclamation of the family or on the family or whatever it is.

I really do hope that SOME DAY your daughters realize what you've done for them in this situation.

I hope so as well but it is about as likely as me making the Celestial Kingdom. The problem is as believers people are taught to accept fake things as real like a parent being different from the rest of their reference group is a bad thing instead of it might be a good thing. That presented opposing viewpoints makes people stronger.

But humans like to circle wagons around their sacred cows.

over the church, she's come around to respecting me. We get along great now. She doesn't try to get me to go back to church anymore. She comes to me for advice a lot more rather than her mormon mothers.

They don't have to believe the church isn't true before they realize all you have done for them where the church is concerned even if you don't believe. I think they probably already do to some extent. Every once in a while my daughter surprises me by what she tells me or asks my opinion on where the church is concerned. She catches me off guard many times.

I know the feeling. It is rare but sometimes I get questioned from my wife and/or girls about some Mormon thing and I have to take a step back and think about it before I respond.

However, I never did have much mormon art. I did have a pastel print of Jesus with children clustered around. I gave to my TBM son. My mom only had a resin statue from Nauvoo. I don't even remember what it was. That went to my son, too.

Maybe I wasn't as TBM as I thought!

I have a picture of the great Mickey Mantle (w/ autographed baseball) on my mantle. The baseball cost me $300 a few years ago, worth $600+ now. That is the type of profit I believe in.

Only mormon artwork I have is Resin Grapes made by my mother and grandmother.

You can do a lot with those and a slingshot.

It was my brothers. Really!
