Orson Hyde, July 4, 1853; Journal of Discourses, Vol 7, p 110 --

Only about two weeks after, the CHOLERA broke out in camp, and the awful prediction was fully verified, to the consternation of the stoutest heart. Some eight or ten died and were buried in a night! But did the Prophet cease his anxiety for the welfare of the camp?

Brigham Young, November 2, 1856; Journal of Discourses, Vol. 4, p 62 --

“Have any of you suffered while coming here? Yes. How many of you sisters present buried your husbands, or your fathers, or your mothers, or children, on the Plains? How many of you brethren buried your wives? Have you suffered, and been in peril and trouble? Yes, you had to endure anguish and pain from the effects of CHOLERA, toil, and weariness.

Brigham Young, November 16, 1856; Journal of Discourses, Vol. 4, p 89 --

Count the living and the dead, and you will find that not half the number died in brother Willie's hand−cart company, in proportion to the number in that company, as have died in past seasons by the CHOLERA in single companies travelling with wagons and oxen, with carriages and horses, and that too in the forepart of the season. When you call to mind this fact, the relations of the sufferings of our companies this season will not be so harrowing to your feelings. With regard to those who have died and been laid away by the roadside on the Plains, since the cold weather commenced, let me tell you they have not suffered one hundredth part so much as did our brethren and sisters who have died with the CHOLERA

Orson Pratt, January 26, 1873; Journal of Discourses, Vol. 15, pp 335-336 --

Among all those revelations concerning the scourges that were to go forth, the one which I have read was given long before the CHOLERA broke out. The first year that we have any knowledge of that terrible plague, if I mistake not, was 1833, some four years after this revelation was given that the Lord would send forth scourges. He did send forth a scourge that seemed to sweep over all the nations of the earth. Did it come among the Latter−day Saints? It did. . . . we learned to our sorrow that the hand of the Lord was upon us, and found the words of the Prophet verified to the very letter, and numbers were laid low by CHOLERA.

Thought: Isn't it interesting that the Word of Wisdom mentions all the things that were popular with the temperance societies of Joseph Smith's time but neglects to tell the Saints to boil their drinking water--the one piece of advice that would have actually saved many of their lives.

Also make you wonder why it doesn't contain this:

"Nevertheless, fucking a prophet with drippy dick is not good for the woman nor the teenage girl. Therefore, store up your antibiotics in great measure should said prophet demand you in marriage."

Just sayin'...
