KNYE-FM is a commercial oldies radio station licensed to Pahrump, NV. Most music radio stations (unless they're gospel or contemporary Christian) refrain from commenting on controversial issues on their websites. But not KNYE-FM.

My only questions after reading this are: whose prayer and whose God. Oh, and since the person who wrote this commentary is not named, I suspect that it isn't the 15-year-old student claimed at the top of the page.

Buzz - trigger words & phrases almost completely devoid of any original ideas or thoughts.

I know there are people who genuinely believe what is written, but the ‘need’ to indoctrinate others is mostly unwanted & certainly unnecessary.

Their website identifies the station as “Kingdom of KNYE”. Apparently the station considers itself some kind of religious broadcaster.

And the so-called prayer was really bad poetry.

Prayer is most certainly *not* forbidden in the public schools. Students are free to assemble at given intervals, i.e. lunch, study hall, etc., and to pray individually or with their friends if they wish. They are free to share their religious beliefs with their friends. They can pray silently to themselves anytime they wish.

What is not okay is prayer that is mandated by the adults.

Oh please, the Homecoming Queen in my brothers class (1969) could also have been named mother of the year. It’s been happening for decades and who cares.

I remember praying over snacks in Kindergarten.

We had morning prayer in third grade. The one JW and 2 catholic girls left the room. The Buddhist girls stayed.

Oddly enough at the Vespers for graduation, this same Buddhist girl gave a Buddhist prayer, in Japanese.

I saw my first Solemn Assembly on TV in elementary school when McKay died.

What's so wrong with praying silently? That's what I don't get about these people. Nobody is keeping them from saying prayers silently, or reading their bible or religious book in their non-academic time. Why isn't that good enough? Certainly an omniscient and omnipresent God doesn't need to audibly hear prayers to know what's in someone's heart and soul at any moment.

Also, the poem says "they've outlawed guns..." and ends with concern over being shot. They need to pick a lane.

Praying out loud isn't directed at God.

It is directed to everybody else as a signal.

That was my point. There's no sense to needing to pray out loud or have forced prayer time, other than to virtue signal and/or try to sell religion.

Exactly. My high school friend who converted to Mormonism carried a BoM around with her to read during her free time. The public schools don't keep religion out. Instead, they try to maintain a welcoming space for all students, religious or not (I realize that some do a better job of this than others.)

When School Prayer comes back (and it will. Be afraid), will they use this one in Utah, or will they use the Mormon format? Hence we see the central problem with public religion.
