Americans have a far more positive view of Jews, Catholics and mainline Protestants than of Latter-day Saints.

Indeed, Mormons, as they are commonly called, have fallen below evangelical Christians, Muslims and atheists in the approval hierarchy.

That’s according to poll released Wednesday by the Pew Research Center, which surveyed 10,588 U.S. adults from Sept. 13-18, 2022.

If you scroll down, there are some interesting graphs. Mormons have a net positive feeling towards members of every other religious group, but every other religious group has net negative feelings about them.

The study finds that in general, people have more positive feelings if they know someone in that group. Since Mormons are often clannish, this puts a damper on their forming genuine friendships with others. The Mormon church could learn something useful from this data, but it won't.

Nothing new. The church was ran out of several states until it finally relocated to a remote desert nobody at the time cared about until the civil war was over and mining barons wanted the Mormon political control shattered so they could control Utah.

The church barely held on until it got rid of polygamy, went to cash tithing and started running itself like a business instead of a commune.

Oddly enough the only group of people who seem to be giving any positive attention to the church is the black community both in the US and in Africa.

In a way the church is where it was in the 1860's. The US and other western governments are teetering on instability. People are more worried about political upheaval, economic collapse and war than they are about Mormons.

Mormons were never part of the mainstream. They will always be a small group but they are very good at surviving. The center of Mormonism is still Utah. They aren't spending a fortune bringing Church headquarters up to modern earthquake standards to move.

I was thinking the same! It might be interesting to see if they could break those stats down geographically, as in what do people in Missouri, Ohio and New York think of Mormons, or the descendants of people in those areas.

FWIW, my dad grew up in Missouri, and he loathed TSCC. He grew up Methodist, and was agitated when one of my brothers married a Catholic girl, but grudgingly came to terms with it. In contrast, my other brother married a Mormon girl, but he went to his grave complaining about TSCC.

They definitely don't fit into today's Woke World.

? One of the complaints that far-right Mormons have is that Nelson is way too woke. Masks, vaccines, be nice to immigrants, oh my.

The war on ‘Woke’ is really just re-packaged “Culture War”. It’s just a way to make money off of manufacturing outrage. And they like to make it about child abuse to really get people whipped up into a self righteous frenzy, so they tie ‘Drag Queen Story Hour’ and ‘Defund the Police’ to ‘woke’ to make it an easy target to fight against all things ‘woke’. While most Americans see ‘woke’ as a good thing.

By 56%-39%, Americans say 'woke' means being aware of social injustice, not being overly politically correct.

The Pew survey breaks down how each religious group feels about other religious groups. The Mormons have the highest view of every other religious group (except atheists), and by a relatively large margin.

I don't doubt that morgbots answered that way, but is it due to their fake positivity and lip service to the 11th article of faith?

How can a group that views all others as "apostate" also view the others "positively?"

So when Ron DeSantis says “Florida is where ‘woke’ goes to die.” He means Florida is where misogyny, homophobia and white supremacy are alive and well!

I don't believe this poll. There is a lot of feeling against Jews for some reason. Israel and circumcision maybe. They sure have a lot of criticism. I don't hear much about Mormons at all outside Utah.

It seems axiomatic that 'good' poll is one that aligns with your personal beliefs.

In the cited poll, 10,599 people's responses were used to "reveal" the varying positions of the adult portion of America's 331 million population.

On the surface, doesn't that sound a bit much?
