A few years ago, there was a lot of speculation about the relationship between CEO Dew of Des. Books, and Wendy, the wife of #1 head guy, Dr Nelson.

Today I went looking for it, putting the two women's names into the search. But as I scrolled and scrolled, there was nothing but Deseret News links, church links, and books written by Wendy.

An image comes to mind of service missionaries sitting in a room set-up like a boiler room, flooding the internet with links designed to obscure other troublesom topics.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Here's a start.

There are a lot of links in this offering, but beware, it's from a real 'fly-by-night' website, full of rando I-don't-know-what-to-call-thems!  Oh, the horror!!

You've been warned:

Sorry, second post. Google bombing is only a temporary effect, and the search results are based on a lot of things including your interests and other searches, in addition to contextual analysis for the search prompt. A lot of work goes into assessing what people want, specifically, when they are issuing searches. It's helpful to be as specific as possible, otherwise you're going to get biographical information, recent news or product pages to buy their products, as that's what the algorithm is programmed to consider main intents.

Yes. Searched lots of different configurations. If they are there at all, they are buried under gazillions of Deseret Book, Deseret News, and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints links.

I wasn't concerned so much about the rumors as the fact that what was available a couple of years ago can no longer be found.

I can promise you it's not an intentional thing by the church. I mean, YES they try to pump out constant new content as "freshness" is also part of the relevance algorithm. As hard as it may be to believe, it's actual humans testing searches and helping to train the algorithm for context, freshness and that sort of thing.

If you scroll down to the block of reddit links, you'll see an abundance of discussion about it, and that's only halfway down the first page of search results: tiny url.com/ 3tz2uxdm (remove the spaces)
