Haven't decided how to handle things if he actually makes it out (it is an hour drive).

How should I respond when he says we've been missed at church?

Really? We hadn't received any telephone calls from anyone.

Really? I couldn't tell by the way you ignored my family in the hallways?

Really? We never had any genuine friendships in the ward.

Really? What is it about us you've missed?

"Really? What is it about us you've missed?"

Your money...

Yeah, that's the perfect question. "Oh? What about us do you miss, exactly?" Watch him squirm.

That's the only one of the questions I'd ask. If you ask the others he'll tell everyone you are "offended".

If he says he missed you at church, tell him not to worry about it - that with enough practice his aim is bound to improve.

Ask him to help clean your bathroom.

Challenge him to miss four weeks of church in a row. Promise him that he will be happier as a result.

What is the collected to local budget $ ratio for 'his' ward?

1,000 to 1?

5,000 to 1?

What do you mean by "he may be coming"?
Did you give him permission?

If you don't want him there, call him up and tell him not to waste his gas or your time.

This all assumes you have to talk to him. You don't. Short and simple. Why are you making this so hard for yourself? Just refuse to meet with him. If he shows up out of the blue, don't let him in and don't talk to him on the stoop. If he calls, don't answer.

Oooo, play the passive aggressive game, right back on them. Tell him that you will meet with him at a certain time, then not be there. See, you too can play the church's little fuck-fuck, games.

Tell him you hid because you were ashamed you lost your mop.

"But really, bishop Milt, doesn't 'we miss you' in mormon talk mean 'you are wrong to stop attending church?'"

"I'm taking a break from it for now, but I appreciate your visit. Have another cookie."

Meet him at the door with a beer in your hand. Don't invite him in,,set on the porch.

Forget the passive-aggressive retorts masquerading as wit.

It's great to do something outrageous---- just not the comebacks suggested here.

Hand him a resignation instead.

I agree.

“Hello”

“Hi Chuck, I’m so glad you came by. This saves me a trip or a stamp! Here is the resignation for me and my family. Please process it as soon as possible. Also keep this information to yourself. You do understand Clergy/member confidentiality right? As of your receipt of this resignation letter me and my family are no longer members. Whats that? Oh, just read the letter. It’s like soup, it’s all in there. Thanks again for coming by Chuck. I really appreciate it. Yeah this weather is really something huh? Buhbye now.”

What happened to make you think the Bishop "may be coming" to visit you?
