" About a dozen college students suffered burns Saturday while dropping gasoline bombs into a mine shaft near Eureka.

A group of Brigham Young University students had been dropping Molotov cocktails through a grate covering a mine shaft along U.S. Highway 6 between Elberta and Eureka, said Utah County sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon. The mine is in the Bergin system of the Tintic Mining District. "

No fucking way! They were over-50-white-guys! No self-respecting homosexual, apostate or unwed mother would come NEAR a mine shaft!

The detail that got to me was those guys using a newspaper (a newspaper!) as a fuse on their biggest gasoline bomb.

It was probably a Salt Lake Tribune because a BYU student wouldn't dare burn a Deseret News for fear the Honor Code office might hear of it.

Sounds like a fun time. I think it's a great idea. Here are the stupidities that were committed:

1) They put 2-3 gallons of gasoline into a container, possibly a cooler. This is overkill and dangerous. The fun line was well-crossed into stupidity, and a newspaper wick sounds sketchy to me.

2) They were sitting on top of the shaft grate, with their legs sticking between the bars. Um, the same shaft they were throwing moltov coctails through so they could see 200-ft fireballs come up out of?

But I hope they're alright. A third degree burn is not equal punishment for stupidity by a long shot. Apparently some had to drive themselves to the hospital. Not a fun night out.

Good thing they weren't smoking hemp. That would have endangered their salvation. Ha ha

When the Office of Surface Mining, through their Abandoned Minelands Division, closes an old mine their first choice is a solid plug.

They only grate them over if the shaft is bat habitat, and they need to allow bat ingress and egress.

May they be bitten by thousands of mesquitoes.

This is my favorite part:

"...officers are looking into felony and trespassing charges."
