I noticed on another forum that he was ex'd. I didn't know this. What happened? Did he swear at the prophet or an apostle? Did he not follow their instructions?

It's been a subject of speculation. Church officials stated that it was not due to apostasy. If you think about what the church values (money, good PR,) you can probably take an educated guess.

Whatever the reason, I'm sure it was the best thing that ever happened to him.

I (just me?) think adultery & other serious misconduct events/ incidents are actually a form of apostasy, but really, Who Cares?

IOW, how much do the Mos care about honesty, relationship fidelity, etc.

If the guy robbed a bank, did a ponzi, ... aren't those forms of apostasy?

MoMism plays funny things with words, terms, phrases and sayings, nearly 24/7/365, I think this is just another example of trying to give one of 'their chosen' a soft landing.

No. Those are grounds for promotion. Sad but true.

In August 2017, the Church released a statement saying he had been released from his position and excommunicated. The Church did not specify the reasons for this action but emphasized that it was not for reasons of apostasy or disillusionment.

Personally, I think the church lied; I think he was disillusioned with the misery of trying to stumble along the covenant path.

...or he was horny.

Those are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Huh!  Are you certain?

Personally, I've never been horny twice in my life...

Which brings to mind the riddle of the soft-boiled egg.

I refuse to engage with you regarding your eggs!

You can never escape the riddle, Sir The Accordion Player. Sooner or later the two-minute clock will ring and the answer will manifest.

If it hasn't already.

I think members who work for the church and find themselves at odds with leaders will eventually find themselves facing some form of church discipline. The church really doesn't want articulate people to decide what their role is within the LDS organization. There is a handbook which outlines what they expect. Any deviation will result in a consequence.
