Heartless, I'd probably not apply the same standard to the first two or three generations of leaders since every apostle at that time was an oddity and a lot of the members were British or Scandinavian.

Even Lund had been involved in Utah Mormonism from the early 1870s and worked directly with Brigham Young and John Taylor at a time when first-generation immigrants from Europe were among senior church leaders. In my view the thing that made him "abnormal" was that when he was ordained an apostle, he was the only member of the quorum with only one wife.
