I just learned people won’t change until THEY themselves decide they are going to change. You can debate all you want and have the best evidence available but until a person decides for themselves you are pissing up a rope.

Like, for sure.

I think lies are often more appealing than the truth. There's a reason they are called the "cold hard facts."

You JUST learned that?

And even when they decide to change they probably won't. See Resolutions, New Year.

This. I can't even change myself let alone anyone else. Somehow I always slide back. Success is not sliding back all the way.

Saw a funny New Year's Joke about a big New Year's Gym Grand Opening but then they concede that first of February they are going back to being an ice cream parlor.

There’s a big difference between a lack of discipline and not accomplishing New Year resolution goals and failure to see the truth surrounded by factual evidence something is false. It’s about cognitive dissonance and it’s why society never changes and we have the same problems over and over.

> It’s a easier to con someone than convince them they have been conned.

This is a subcategory under "it is easier to break stuff than to fix stuff."

There's money to be made in signage that announces, "I've changed!"

Sure, you're not going to fool the people who really know you, but that certainly leaves an enormous share of the population who will envy you!

Saying “What was i thinking” is no longer politically correct or acceptable.

From Carl Sagan:
"If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back."

Is there any kind of "...oozling" that feels so good that one would want to be "...oozled" forever?

...asking for a dear friend...

I think you are thinking of canoodling. Not the sam thing, though I can understand thinking a bam-boozle might be related.

Why are you bringing Lord of the Rings into this, i.e., "Not the Sam thing..."

Sam was the real hero!

You only like him because Sam was scandalously fond of lemons.

"until a person decides for themselves you are pissing up a rope"

You can lead a horse to drink, but you can't make him water.
