It ain't easy to be a TBM sometimes.
Our Bishop sent the entire ward an email yesterday an hour before the Superbowl saying that watching the Superbowl on the Sabbath was wrong and we should be having a Come Follow Me party instead. It actually was three paragraphs long but I condensed it down.
Ok, I for one don't do tv sports on Sunday period. But I still find this
offensive. No mention about this was ever made in Sacrament meeting ever with this Bishop until at the last minute yesterday.Maybe he was afraid of torches&pitchforks at church.

Maybe the bishop’s wife put her foot down, and he figured if he had to suffer, everyone’s gotta suffer.

Is it written somewhere in the Bishop's Handbook that it's the bishops obligation to make sure the members are always feeling guilty about something?

The heretic bishop who paid me (under the table) to be the EQP also cut 30 minutes off of a Sac Meeting so we could go home to watch the moon landing.

There’s bishop roulette and then there’s bishop Russian roulette. . .

I'll bet if Saban had ordered a game on a Sunday, your bishop would make an exception. We all know AL football trumps religion when push comes to shove.

A total bummer to be one of his kids.

This must be the hypothetical Tuscaloosa 3rd Ward and, as such, a hypothetical email. I was joking with someone on Sunday about all these strange worthiness tests we grew up with in the '60s and '70s; who would have been the recipient of said email, and such an email was not mentioned.

With that said, watching the Superbowl and other big sporting events on Sundays were a big source of debate when I was growing up out in the ‘mission field’ with split Sunday meetings and long commutes filling the day. Then when VCR’s came out there was another raging debate on whether or not it was OK to record it and watch later.

I wonder what the pre-TV rules were for listening to it on the radio?
