The Church used to teach that "Gospel Hobbies" we're not a good idea because the individual focused on one aspect of the church which led to judging others who did not have the same level of zeal on that one aspect. The next six months are going to give us a lesson on "Gospel Hobbies" I fear.

So, Phil, are you saying that maybe some folks have their shorts in a wad and we're all going to hear about it?

What about building a Jaredite barge in your backyard?

Temple attendance isn't everything. It's the only thing.

I have couple of older relatives who are really into the Genealogy/Redeem the Dead hobby. They make sure that anyone in the family that doesn't care about their hobby doesn't really measure up to their level of righteous.

Oh well.

For a while, amateur (‘ham’) radio classes were taught where (Eastern King County) I lived, that was the late ‘90s.

Having a voice license used to require Morse code ability / testing along with basic electronics, but I understand those requirements have been reduced and / or eliminated.

This isn't exactly what I meant about
Gospel Hobbies but there's a point to
make here with Ham radio.
I'm a ham and have been so for 40 yrs or so. It's a hobby I enjoy and I also enjoy building my own equipment.
It's a hobby nothing more or less.
Since our SP got his License everybody wants to know about it and want to make it into something more than a hobby with some higher purpose ie disaster prep etc.

My favorite is the "sign of the times" club. Everything that happens, good or bad, they recognize as a "sign of the times"

Serious question: is there any other kind these days?

They ran out all the academics, and they have basically demoralized any Sermon on the Mount types. So what's left?
