The fear that somewhere out there in the world, at any time, a duck may be watching you.

I love these little gems, and asked google about it;

"Anatidaephobia is the fear that a duck is watching you. Etymologically, this word is derived from the Greek word “Anatidae,” which means swan, ducks, or geese, and “Phobos,” which means fear. Anatidaephobia is the irrational and pervasive fear that you are watched by a duck".

Thank you Dave for venturing into the forbidden room of unknown knowledge.

However, the term was created by Gary Larson in a Far Side cartoon.

We still need words for made up things!

Gary Larson was so so good.

Fear of ducks watching probably is a thing for some unfortunate folks, but there’s no dx of whatever you wrote, Dave.

My ducks are keep their eyes on you.

My back-woods ducks definitely keep an eye on me, as do the birds and other critters. Why? I provide them with food. Today's dinner includes cracked corn, seeds, peanuts and a chopped up ripe pear. I suspect the mallard couple has a nest going nearby.

My bird friends start singing and chattering when they see me put food out each afternoon. I love it, and I don't mind that they watch me.

Just so we're clear, you can take any Greek word and stick it in front of phobia. That doesn't mean anybody actually has it. There are real phobias, and then there are all the rest.
