“ Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador is on a roll. First he falsely accused doctors of lying about needing to airlift patients out of the state for abortion care. Now, the Republican AG is complaining that the Supreme Court justices were “relentless” during oral arguments on the EMTALA, calling Justice Sonia Sotomayor “shameful.””

Forced birth will not stop the declining birth rate.

https://www.deseret.com/family/2024/04/25/cdc-us-birth-rate-record-low-2023-experts-worried/

U.S. women are starting families later and having fewer children, some forgoing having kids entirely. Those are among the factors contributing to news that in 2023, the U.S total fertility rate hit its lowest point, falling to a record 1.62 births per woman, well below the replacement rate of 2.1 births.

All numbers in the new report, released Thursday from the National Center for Health Statistics within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, are provisional. While they’re based on an estimated 99% of birth records now in, final numbers may be slightly different when released later this year.

The total fertility rate is an estimate of how many births a hypothetical group of 1,000 women would have over their lifetimes, based on the age-specific birthrate in a particular year, the report explains.

I recently read an article about the population situation in China.

From about 1980 to 2015 China establish a law that limited families to one child per household. This was their way of suffering from too many people.

Male offspring are favored over females.

Now the situation is that their elder population is getting older and needing family care. There are fewer young people, especially woman that are available for the elder care.

The younger population is failing to replace the older dying population. In other words, China is a dying country. India has more people than China.

Here in the US, family sizes are getting smaller and cost of living is sky rocketing.

However there is a light at the end of the tunnel. There are millions of people coming across the border that are younger and very possibly more ambitious than many of our younger generation. The criminal element will just merge with the criminal element that already exists, maybe taking over the likes of the Mafia, etc.

They are going to take the low wage jobs, create more enterprises, develop more businesses and produce more families and have more kids.

Us older people will have to get use to things being more crowded and more expensive, but will be better off than any generation before us and will be the envy of the rest of the world.

Remember classic Cold War movies like "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold?"

Unlike Communism, they claim it's "God" telling them to do this.

We don't have walls, minefields, and barbed wire yet, but things are trending in that direction.

Do we have see things like people being forcefully pulled in a tug of war across boundaries like 1961?

Several states and many counties within states are starting to criminalize either leaving or crossing to have an abortion. Texas even has an abortion "bounty" law that allows anyone to sue anyone for $10,000 dollars who helps someone get an abortion anywhere.

People are having to go underground like people flying from Cuba or swapping cars and such to escape would-be anti-abortion vigilantes.

I wish I were exaggerating, but I'm not.

Texas counties: abortion bans are not enough

The battle over access to reproductive rights is far from over.

Nowhere is that more clear than in Texas where counties have been passing ordinances that are placing restrictions on using certain roads and highways to get to another state for abortions.

“The intent behind these ordinances is to fear-monger and intimidate,” said Zurawski. “I think what they don’t realize is that we are not going to put up with this.”

Zurawski emphasized that while a 10-hour car drive to the nearest state for an abortion would have been a death sentence for her owing to potential sepsis, the “abortion trafficking” ordinances instilled fear among abortion seekers like herself from receiving abortions.

At the forefront of the structuring of these ordinances are Mark Lee Dickson, a pastor and director for the Right to Life East Texas, and Jonathan Mitchell, former solicitor general and architect of the Texas Senate Bill 8. Opponents coined this as the “bounty-hunter”law because it allows private citizens to bring forward civil claims against those who aid and abet abortions.

You know who isn't against abortion?

    Every pregnant Mother Superior...

Every wife whose husband had a vasectomy...

Every antiabortionist whose g/f is pregnant...

...The lovely spectacle of those who say "Rules for thee are not for me!"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Poland

In Poland, which has the strictness abortion laws, the fertility rate is now 1.26. The lowest in Western Europe. There are many theories to the low birth rate. One is the fear young women have of getting pregnant and not receiving appropriate medical care if there are issues with the pregnancy. Economics and society changes are significant factors too.

Educated women in prosperous, well-off countries or better, well to do segments of the population of countries have fewer children than illiterate uneducated women.

Women's educational attainment vs. fertility rate, 2020

The fertility rate, expressed as the number of children per woman, is based on age-specific fertility rates in one particular year. Educational attainment is the average number of years of formal education received by women between the ages of 15 and 64.

Now let's say you're seeing more people who don't look like you and you've been convinced (by a church, cult, alternative reality distortion field, take your pick) that you are being "erased" and your "way of life" is coming to an end.

Now you start to believe women are no longer individuals, but possessions of the society or the state. If people with uteri are allowed to live as they will, you'll go "extinct."

That's how it starts.

So he called the female Supreme Court justices, "relentless" and "aggressive" in their questioning. Poor man!

One hospital alone had to airlift six patients over a three month span.

ETA: I wonder at what point denying women needed healthcare becomes a criminal matter (not for the hospitals, which are trying to stay within the law, but for the legislators, state attorney general, etc.)

I was driving through ID a few years ago, just after the ID legislature cut all funding for Planned Parenthood because it provided abortion services/counseling, even though none of the state funding went to that. The funding was for mammograms, birth control, general gynecological services.

I was listening to a radio call-in program, and a state senator was taking questions. A listener asked what provision the legislature had made to provide an alternate source for those services. He hemmed and hawed for a bit, but finally admitted that they had made no provision for an alternate source of those services. So basically women, in particular lower economic class and young women, were left out in the cold.

That seems consistent with Labrador's attitude.

He holds PRIESTHOOD - how dare anyone question his judgment!

His views are as valid as Evangelicals, Baptists, Pentecostal snake handlers & Holy Rollers, Tent Revival faith healers and so many others who KNOW they are right.

Big problem is they all try to force their fairy tale reasoning on everyone else.

One of the most disturbing things I have seen in contemporary government was the sleazy, underhanded undoing of Roe v Wade.
