Follow the leader is the only real commandment. Do what you are told and don’t question. You never are an adult in the church. You are a child and your parent is the church leadership. They do all the thinking. You obey.

Everything else is just filler.

No, the first, greatest and only commandment is “thou shalt not make the Church look bad.” You can lie, cheat and steal all you want as long as you don’t get caught.

Oaks lied about the circumstances of the excommunications of the September Six. He offered to resign not because he lied, but because he got caught. Holland lied about the existence of the Strengthing Church Members Committee. Hinkley, Oaks and Hugh Pinnock lied their little asses off in the Hofmann forgery case.

Getting caught was the sin. They made the church look bad. They cover up sex abuse cases to not make the church look bad. They publish grossly exaggerated membership numbers to make the church look more successful than it is. They lie to hide their wealth.

And they don’t really care what you believe as long as you don’t make the church look bad. Questioning is bad only if you cause other people to leave the church. If you don’t do that, they don’t care. Hinkley lied about the Salamander Letter because he thought it was real, which means he thought the actual BoM plates stories were phony. He lied to protect the original stories, though he at least doubted them. He lied to not make the church look bad. That is in keeping with the First Commandment.

Thou shalt not make the church look bad.

When you have your second anointing and calling and election made sure you can deceive all you want.

It cracked me up that Mark Hoffman perfectly knew he could make a lot of money if he released forgeries that made the church look bad. Boy were the church leaders easy to dupe and the panic made them lay out the dough. I was on my mission when the whole thing surfaced. Our mission president called a special conference to tell us how to handle any questions we got.

Gordon B Hinkley said on one those television interviews members personally could believe whatever they wanted but public ally they had to parrot the official narrative given by the leaders.

So yeah you don’t make the church look bad but you are going to get hauled in for a talk if you publicly go off the official narrative.

The former Bishop that went public about the abusive sexual interviews of children and teens made the Church look bad.

After they excommunicated him, the church changed their policy, slightly, but had to react.

Oliver Cowdrey was excommunicated for accusing Joseph of having an affair with the hired help.

I was threatened with excommunication when I presented hard, indisputable proof, to my stake president, that a high ranking church official was stealing funds.

Some people fall into line every time they see a uniform.

Most people are cowards. They don’t stand for anything and just go with the flow. There’s always a cost to being the person who stands up and says this is wrong.

I used to get pissed about it but then I realized the church leadership created their own prison. They have to waste their life maintaining the charade. I think they hate us the way they do because we are free. They aren’t. They would love us to be as miserable as they are. Jeff Holland used to be a very happy guy. The higher up in the church he got the more miserable he became. Sad to see. It’s like the mafia. It sucks you in.

And some people refuse to fall in line any time they see a uniform, or other authority. It happens often enough that it’s even got a name - oppositional defiant disorder. You know, people who never got over the terrible twos.

Like people who refuse to use a consistent board name so people can have a context when they read posts, and to discourage sock puppet posts. That’s quite a widespread rule on Internet forums because it reduces trollish behavior, and is usually enforced by requiring posters to log in. This board does not want to require people to log in, so they mostly depend on voluntary compliance.

There are posters here that rarely follow that rule. They sometimes post about the importance of individual liberty, but I don’t recall ever seeing a post from them about the importance of individual responsibility. Interesting omission.
