I'm starting to see commercials about this. One I saw today was about BYU students in a remote area of (I think) South America with a primitive hidden tribe with only an oral language and how the students are helping them and learning their language.

It is part of the brand "to benefit the world".

Remember when "enter to learn, go forth to serve" was the main message of BYU? Now that is "WAY" down the list.

There are very few purely oral cultures left in the world. All the rest have been destroyed by the introduction of writing. When they are all gone, oral traditions will be gone from the human experience. These BYU students are no different than the Taliban blowing up ancient Buddhist statues.

It doesn't surprise me that BYU would spawn crazy xxx xxx colonialism due to its association with Brigham Young, but I didn't expect such profound tone deafness in 2024.

But let's be honest, these culture-destroying assholes want to peddle their pulp fiction cult to anyone who hasn't yet learned to use the Internet.

And this all reminds me of SWK and the "Lamanites" and promising them they could become white if they were righteous enough and bringing all their kids to Mormon families and schools.

At the time I did not understand why one of the Native American students in the program had such a chip on his shoulder. I do now.

Do they still have that sign that says, "The World is our Campus", which of course in inspired everyone to correct by flipping two words around?

They're behind the times. Otherwise they'd be using the words globe or planet instead of world. I love it when environmentalists gon about "the planet". It makes them sound like extraterrestrials.
