Depends on who made the funeral potatoes. Some are really good, and others make you go...eh!
My favorite food is simple. Straight forward, not spicy, and it sticks to your ribs. Some of the best food I ever had was from farmers. Nothing fancy, just dang good regular food!
I love a Maine lobster roll. I could eat one every day for lunch and die happy. Any sort of seafood comes after that -- scallops, scampi, grilled shrimp, and more. And prime rib with Yorkshire pudding is divine.
mmm lobster rolls. One of my doctors is right next to Luke's Lobster in Bethesda. I'm there twice a year and I can justify the splurge as an occasional treat. Another lobster roll place is opening pretty close to me in upper MoCo, and it's close enough to be dangerous. For the sake of my wallet, I hope it's terrible.
There is a recipe I found on the internet...if you search "grilled saffron rack of lamb", you'll find it...that beats any lamb I've had at any restaurant. I replace the saffron with rosemary, because have you seen the price of saffron?
Grill it over real charcoal, pair it up with a nice red wine and your favorite sides, and it's worthy of a last meal on death row.
I could never eat veal or lamb. It's too sad to think about for a baby animal. I hate how humans factory farm animals. I also could never boil a lobster alive.
I hate this biological system of having to eat other life to live. It's depressing. I always feel guilty for what an animal had to go through for me to have a nice feast. Sigh.
My favorite food is probably fresh chocolate chip cookies.
My homemade Thanksgiving stuffing, Cheddar Pear Pie, homemade lasagna, my salad that’s been dubbed “ That Good Salad”, chocolate ice cream, and Costco’s sheet cake. :)
Okay Dagny (and anyone who would like the recipe) here it is:
3/4 C vegetable oil 1/4 C fresh lemon juice 2 garlic cloves, minced ( or 2 tsps ready chopped garlic) 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp pepper head of Romain lettuce, chopped 2 C chopped tomatoes 1 C shredded Swiss cheese 1/2 C grated Parmesan cheese 8 bacon strips cooked and crumbled 1 C Caesar salad croutons 2/3 C slivered almonds ( if you’re not allergic to nuts) I like to blend the oil, lemon juice, garlic, salt, and pepper in a blender; it seems to stay blended longer. This will make about 14 servings
Tomatoes. All the tomatoes. The perfect food. Just think of all the varieties and ways to use them. Look at how many times they are used in this thread. Winters are hard for me. I will find myself staring at cartoon tomatoes in games :) I would love an Aerogarden to grow them in the house but they are expensive. Because of the deer I can only grow them on the deck in semi hydroponic planters and our growing season is short so I stick to cherries. I will buy any decent big ones I can find. One of my favorite ways to eat them is to core them, cut them in half, slice in sections but not all the way through, stuff with a bit of ham or turkey, top with cheese and pop them under the broiler. Maybe a bit of red onion an salad dressing.
Most of all, I just love them plain. When I was little in Utah the farmer behind us used to let me pay him a nickel and I could take my salt shaker and eat all I wanted. I wish I could find someone to let me do that now :) !
The Sun Gold cherry tomatoes at my brother's house are so good that I eat them straight off the vine. He also grows full-size Purple Cherokees and several other varieties. They are setting really nicely this year, probably due to the intense heat we've been experiencing. The cukes, peppers, and patty-pan squash are all doing great as well.
That's my favorite tomato variety too. I have them growing right now in my yard. They are like candy. I sometimes pick fresh rasberries and fresh yellow cherry tomatoes and eat them before I can get in the house.
My favorite summer salad is tomato diced up with fresh cucumber and a little chopped onion and chives (all from my yard). I toss them in an oil, vinegar and sugar dressing (heavy on the sugar).
Mmmmmmmm Purple Cherokees. Those are my second favorite after Black Krim. I have grown Sun Gold before but they are too sweet for me. I have been doing Sweet 100 the last few years and they do well in the planters. They are indeterminate so I can graze on them for a good while. I graze on the blackberries too. I have to keep an eye on the new pup because she has a real taste for the herbs and tries to sneak into the pots :)
