I was working on a passenger train that hit an auto at a crossing, we were just pulling out of a station at low speed, no serious injuries.

the RYs generally will try to recover any damages to the equipment or crew injuries. High-speed vs. big trucks often cause serious damage to the train as well as the vehicles; in those the engine crew is relieved of duty on the spot to recover & get emotional counseling.

The tracks are 'always' railway property...
