I have been attending my former home ward with my mom. Xmas week, there was a singing and choir extravaganza, which was decent. But the church went back to its old tricks and had two stake representatives discuss the addiction and pornography recovery programs. Something that really sacked any semblance of a good feeling. But I digress.
My mom's ward has very lfew young persons. It's to the point where the church assigns young people to "cover" basic ward needs like blessing the sacrament and passing it.
I had been confused because the ward is officially assigned two lady missionaries but then I noticed the two were wearing missionary name tags. It turns out that one of them is already serving a mission near his home.
It's not for me to judge but both of them have learning or social disabilities. The sacrament prayers were resaid several times. Then we got to know the young man better. He read a prepared talk. Apparently, he has been called to serve in a country where there's been lots of turmoil and civil unrest.
Perhaps some of you think I worry too much, but this young man may have severe anxiety issues. He mentioned his part time job experience at a fast food place, two hours a day. Knowing the rigors and expectations of missionary work, I think it's going to be rough. Plus, I had companions who didn't give a link whether I fell off my bike, stopped for a traffic light or whether I was mugged.
I am just disgusted that they are sending this young man out of the states when he clearly needs additional support and encouragement to accomplish basic routines that the rest of us take for granted.
