I saw this quote or meme on a member's fb. While it directly has zero connection to church quotes, I think it set up the mindset to be taken advantage by the church. I have added my ex mo perspective in parathensis.

- Not every (church)day is a good day.
Live anyway.

-Not everyone (in the church) will tell you the truth.
Be honest anyway.

-Not all you love (in the church) will love you back.
Love anyway.

-Not all deals (in the church) are fair.
Play fair anyway.

Yeah, I kinda of followed most of those as a member. And the one and only time that I hoped and expected something in return for all the time and monetary donations, I needed assistance after my house burned. And the church leader had the gall to tell me to count my blessings because the church wasn't there to help me in times of need.

I read the message as it doesn't matter if people you trust screw you over, love them and forgive them. Sorry, I can't go for that.

Isn't that all "turn the other cheek"? Not down for that.

If you aren't in reciprocal relationships, find some that are instead. The world goes round whether you want it to or not but reciprocity makes it more pleasurable at least sometimes.

too much of society today is done on a transactional basis, even in marriages & other relationships.

It's a form of Cancer that a lot of politicians example & practice using tax-provided funds.

Selfish, anyone?

Members have no self value when it comes to the almighty church. Some people are gathering great wealth by means of tithing grifting. The money is laundered and "hid up."

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome is the definition of stupid.

My mom when younger would donate her time and talents to make professional and artistic signs for upcoming church events. To my knowledge, only once did the church properly reimburse her for the cost of paint and poster board. The bishop often rebuffed her reminding that her efforts were for the goodness of the church.

To make matters worse, the church would not permit her to store her artwork (fancy sign) anywhere on church property; the library, stage area or closets. It ended up in the Goop garage where it was thoroughly wrecked from a leaking roof. Her signs were thrown out from damage. Mind you that she was always requested to do this, she never volunteered. My mom worked and didn't have time.

About 10 years ago, she made her last sign. Not having good materials or paint. She made the sign out of a discarded refrigerator cardboard box and Crayola crayons. That's all it took. They never asked her again to paint anything.

Messy, that was funny what your mom accomplished - passive aggressiveness expertly done.

Years ago, before the Net, DW was primary president in our small ward. She was about to get snacks and treats for a primary party. The bishop told her she is required to go the the stores and write done the prices of the items (napkins, candy, paper plates etc.) and then meet him in his office for him to approve each item. Basically she said (not to his face), 'f*this' and purchased all the items. We were not reimbursed for the party as she did not follow his directive. This corporation has over 120 billion dollars and the the bishop was worried about spending $40.

I grew tired of hearing how poor the church was and didn't have a budget for this and that. And the church used to have lessons in church manuals about being frugal and thrifty. The church justified the need for the members to use their own monies to support the work of the church. One ward clerk bought his own pack of BIC pens. And he guarded them with his life, even chasing down members who had borrowed them to sign a document. And yet the church allowed stories of apostles using their own monies to fly around the world to persist without correction. All to encourage that the church is too poor to properly pay bills and furnish members with callings with proper equipment.

The church could buy 1,000,000,000,000 BIC pens.

As a nevermo, I find this compelling. And I've now read many similar accounts. Dozens, at this point. All first person. This is how it works.

Before exmormon.org I had no idea.

If you had been a woman and you lied about your husband being a horrible unworthy sinner you wanted to divorce, you'd have gotten the money.
