Called "My Path to Self Reliance." Explained to us to today Workshops set up for Emotional, financial, social and employment. The emotional stuff will deal with depressions, addiction, porn, etc. It is an a group setting with no teacher. Sit around and discuss your problems. The Stake leaders were so excited because now with Self Reliance you came have the Savior be more effective in your life. These groups will be lead by lay people called in the stake. The Church program is so successful that seminary kids are to invite their friends when they are talking about it in seminary. The bottom line we will become more Christlike. Our stake leaders testified this program was inspired by God.
Members helping members. Members sharing personal information in group settings. I noticed there was nothing about boundaries, etc. Members today were encouraged to sign up as it will united the ward, give us better experience in understanding how Jesus works with us, etc.
Today attendance 50% less than a month ago. New Member baptized and name read into records. A no show.6 new members moved into the ward. No shows. And at least 6 people have been baptized in last 4 months. No shows.
I think they are looking at the wrong problem!!!!!
Yikes. There are so many things wrong with that approach, IMO. They might do more damage than good.
-Busy body tattle tale types (boundries) -No professionals -Everything will have to align with church nonsense -The actual social issues causing so many problems likely won't be helped by church propaganda groups -A culture that teaches God rewards the righteous can cause people to feel guilt and inadequacy
Jesus isn't going to help people afford housing for starters.
Ha! Ha! What a disaster. So you are going to have guilt riddled people share their dirt with other members. You are putting people with no training into a counseling situation. AA meetings for porn addiction with the ward. What could possibly go wrong.
I learned how to organize, to be bold and lie really well during my time in the church. If I wanted to go into politics or be a con artist it prepped me good for that.
You are spot on with this one. If my bishop or stake president even hints about discussing a tragedy our family has to deal with I'm going to have to tell them, as diplomatically as possible, both being unlearned in science or engineering, you are no more qualified to address this subject than you are quantum physics or brain surgery.
It’s a white collared church ran by committees. The church loves making new programs. It makes the leadership and members think they are accomplishing something.
No canned program will replace trust and real compassion. Just more stale process from Salt Lake.
You really have to make friends yourself. If you don’t make an effort you will be lonely. Canned programs don’t make real friends.
I wonder if there's a group for those who have discovered that the church will survive if I stop paying tithing. A pretty good discussion could evolve with the widows mite reports of the church's amassed wealth.
>now with Self Reliance you came have the Savior be more effective in your life

The Savior is now the person doing the heavy lifting? It used to be Heavenly Father™, or the Holy Ghost (now being transformed to Holy Spirit because horror movies), or the Light of Christ. Jesus was third string backup, who mostly wanted us for a sunbeam.
More seriously, am I the only person who flinches when they hear the term "Christlike"? It always, even as a TBM, sounded so condescending to me. What makes the person using the term think that they are qualified to determine what is Christlike? It sounded to me like cheap praise or a cheap putdown.
So Jesus loves you and is there for you to help you and guide you and all you have to do is figure out how to get him to do his part which nobody has figured out yet.
This post (and many others) need to be widely read. I hope after nearly 12 years to start updating the site with a new look. This bb will remain though it is not cell phone friendly. This would fit nicely under Mormon news.
This program will be a disaster. I think of folks who were active members and they are among the most unlikely people I would want to share anything with. Privacy gone. This will likely create more inactives due to embarrassment from things said in such meetings in my opinion.
