This is ridiculous. And they claim it isn't due to financial reasons. Why else would they fire all the janitors and make ward members clean the buildings? At least be honest on why they are making ward members clean the buildings.

This also applies to stake centers and temples. Some landscaping (weeding) is in the mix as well.

here in norway the members do general landscaping like raking leaves, spreading bark, mowing the grass, etc.

Earlier in the year it was reported that the residential properties at City Creek were not selling and so the asking price was cut by 50%.

Coincidence...

I wonder if you get to deduct the value of your time spent cleaning from you tithing...

Are the geriatric authoritarians going to start cleaning the COB?

I doubt it. They make the rules and the rules always benefit the rulemakers.

Perhaps SLC Saints will get a new Calling to clean the new mall.

They sacked the janitors in the UK about 30 years ago. Then wondered why the chap who had been the janitor, who was then jobless, did not want to clean it for nothing...

Working on one of the Lords commercial hunting reserves was a full time mission call until recently.

Wow. I didn't realize it was the same in Europe and Australia. It just makes it worse that they claim it isn't for financial reasons.

Just yesterday a TBM friend commented that her ward's budget had been slashed by 1/3. She lives in a very afluent ward with several families from mormon royalty. Her justification was that tithing was down because of the economy.

I like her and have to work with her so I refrained comment about the mall and members having to clean ward buildings/temples, etc.

Behold verily, verily, verily I say unto my servant even Thomas Spencer Monson: the saints shall scrub the shit off mine holy toilets, yea even those which have been concecrated unto the Lord for the purpose of receiving the dung of the saints. In doing this they may know that this has not been in vain, for behold the money saved will underwrite the construction cost overruns of my most holy and sacred shopping mall. The mall where my more righteous saints having been blessed with abundance as a blessing upon their heads may shop at Nordstrom and other fine retail establishements.

Admonish my saints to incur debt in the Lord's holy mall. Yea even with Visa, Master Card, Discover and American Express.

I must depart, Elohim is calling Michael and me. Amen.

This borders on hazing. It's almost as if they are taunting the members, trying to see how far they can push them.

"What if we make them scrub their own toilets on Sunday?"
"Nah, they'll never go for that one!"
"Wanna bet?"

It's like a modern version of Job.
