Well, 85% of them, anyway:
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/705388863/High-speed-Internet-coming-to-85-percent-of-meetinghouses.html

Here's the money quote: “In 2012, members and leaders around the world will be able to connect to meetinghouse Internet via their LDS Account, making it much easier for them to gain access to online church resources in ward and stake buildings. Personalized access through an LDS Account will also help increase individual accountability for how the Internet is used.”

an announcement was recently made that electronic devices were not to come to SM. Too many heads bowed over the internets is my guess.

I guess it is okay if it is church business.

"Personalized access through an LDS Account will also help increase individual accountability for how the Internet is used."

Big brother will monitor your internet use. Geezus!

Wait. Am I reading this right?

All TBMs will have to sign up for an LDS account, which in turn will monitor their web use.
Just like they do with the missionaries.

You'd have to be quite brainwashed to let the morg invade your privacy in that manner.

No. It just means that if you take your PC or Smartphone to the chapel, you can use an LDS account to access the LDS broadband service, there so you can download material for talk, etc.

It's not a big deal, IMO.

you have nothing to worry about, so you should just accept that Church supervision is OK.

People just don't realize that they are giving up all rights to privacy.

I guess the Church motto should be "There should be no expectation of privacy as a member of the Church".

My stake building has Internet, but it is password protected, and us regular folk don't get the password.

I've been to several large churches around my town visiting, and they all have wi-fi. Not the kind of restrictions like the church has either. I'm sure inappropriate content is filtered out, but if I want to visit Facebook while i wait for my women's Bible study class to start, I can.

This is nothing new for other, mainstream churches.

I don't have a problem with this, you have to have an account with them to use their internet. And I'm guessing you have to be in their building to use it, you will still have your own internet at home where you can surf where ever you want. So when you are at church on their wifi, play by their rules.

That doesn't mean that you can't set up your own WiFi device in the church, loaded with a cache of exmormon articles so that bored members can have something to do during the meetings.

Isn't it possible for the church to track where you go on the web, even from your home computer, once you log on with your password to the ward or stake? They will know who logged in and can see where you've been surfing too.

yup, just as apostate brand baptisms & worldly underwear are simply portals to ultimate condemnation (according to the LDS church), the church (LDS INC) will soon be the only approved provider of its own holy exclusive authorized internet connection service.

First thing I thought of was the meeting house of the future:

This will be yet another excuse for members of the church to be removed from establishing true relationships with other members of the church. Interpersonal communication is essentially non-existent in some wards. It seems to me that the art of vocal communication is slipping from our fingertips due to the illusion that technology will somehow enhance our ability to know one another better.

Internet access in meetinghouses will be nothing more than a monitoring tool to track and curtail the ideas and activities of those who are too blind to understand its dual purpose. This kind of "opportunity" will add to the distractions of church business and lead people further and further away from what religion is supposed to do for them.

I remember a ward conference some months ago. I sat near the back of the chapel and noticed some visiting members of the high council sitting to my left. All three of them had their hand held devices out during the duration of the conference and didn't seem to look up too often. I suspect they weren't looking up scriptures or general conference talks either. They seemed totally removed from the meeting and were probably assigned to be there. You'll mulitiply this behavior ten fold when you open up this "access" to everyone.

I guess it doesn't matter. At least they'll get to update their Facebook pages instead of trying to understand the lesson in Sunday School. The frivolous use of technology will be the downfall of the "happy" society that never really existed.

Hell, I just use the phone signal from a nearby tower to have internet access while at SM. Luckily my cel phone plan includes data usage.

No way in hell would I want TSCC to monitor how I use their fucking internet.

Who do they think they are kidding ?

I would not put it past them to put a virus on your phone or computer that monitors your internet usage.

Unbelievable that people will fall for this crap.
