No doubt it is to appear to the potential mates as more moral and honest

'Those other men are scum. They don't worship God like I do. You can't trust someone who doesn't worship god the way i do. I have the most favor witb God. My god can beat up their god!' And they may feel they need more luck if there is more competition.

I suppose this implies that religiosity is considered a desirable quality

If increasing it helps you in competition for mates. *sigh*

Yes, I know that correlation does not imply causation and that there are other explainations, but still....
