So yesterday I had a complete hip replacement. I was really worried about it, but I am happy to report that it went swimmingly well! Today I did some walking and exercises with the physical terrorist - er therapist and am doing so well they're probably gonna let me go home tomorrow. The nurses and therapists have said they have never seen a anyone advance so quickly. And, today was my first day in over 9 months without severe pain. The doc said it was actually much worse than it showed on x-ray. I am a happy, happy, grateful girl!

Gotta love those physical therapists.. I know. They push. A surgeon told me I'd never have full flexion of my elbow after fractured it snowboarding (because I was 40, no way). Well, I have full flexion. I loved waving to that surgeon in the hallway after the PT's helped me reach full flexion. The process was not fun, though, but it was worth following their directions. Work through it, you rock

Boarding a flight will never be the same, though.

I had both knees replaced several years ago, so I have some experience at this. Just wait until the post-op soreness heals and you have full function back. Being able to move without pain seems like a brand-new miracle every day.

Keep up the PT - it really helps. Hooray for YOU!!!

My wife said the same thing about the physical terrorists - er, therapist. A great guy until he had her do anything.

Wish you a speedy recovery with as little pain inducing physical therapy as possible.

I'm suspicious: things went so well that you MUST have gotten a Mormon priesthood blessing! ; )

Glad to hear you're feeling better! : )

There used to be a series called "The Operation" featuring, you guessed it, operations in all their close-up detail. The only one I had trouble watching was the hip replacement. So much flesh to hack through, bones to scrape and saw... Um, I wonder what's on the other channels.

So I wish you a rapid and complication-free recovery, bigred. Best of luck to you.

They have a new procedure that requires a lot less cutting. Instead of going in through the side, they make an incision on the front of the leg and separate rather than cut he muscle. It makes the recovery time much faster and easier. Ain't technology great???

You are now yet ANOTHER person I know who has been delighted with the results of a hip replacement.

Enjoy your freedom from pain, bigred!

I had to call my Mom who has had both hips replaced and tell her about the "physical terrorists". She got a HUGE laugh out of that one and said that is exactly what they seem like! (She is 90 years young.)

Hope things continue to go well for your recovery.
