I didn't see any posts here on this article yesterday in the deserted news.

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700172277/New-book-a-recipe-on-how-to-be-an-LDS-woman.htmlhe

"In coming months, the book will be distributed to every adult Latter-day Saint woman across the globe."

A book clarifying how women can fulfill their "responsibilities" endoresed by Julie Beck. I feel brain cells dying just in anticipation of it.

Some commentors are noting that LDS women are already feeling stressed about the quest for perfection. Its interesting that the church feels so strongly about this book that it will be distributed to every Mormon adult woman. I'm looking forward to the comments once everyone gets a look at it.

Commissioning the book, translating it into 23 languages, and distributing it free to "every adult Latter-day Saint woman across the globe" is a huge commitment of resources. The Suits wouldn't do that unless they felt they had to.

Remember when they did a similar if smaller scale stunt back in the 1990s? They created some sort of RS mission statement/pledge that was greeted with all sorts of breathless hype about being divine revelation specifically for women. I got the feeling the plan was for women to stand and recite it at the beginning of every RS meeting, but the whole idea was so obnoxious, even to TBM women, that the "revelation" sank with nary a trace.

An unopened book sitting on the shelf is at least less obnoxious.

I still think YW are not transitioning to RS. I can't imagine how a book written by an MP wife will change that.

OMFG. I just did a thread about that but with a different article title:

http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,276448

What's hilarious to me is the subtitle of the book, "The History and Work of Relief Society." With the way TSCC loves to whitewash its REAL history, I doubt any of the stories will be true. What a fucking joke! >:-(

"Their current president, Sister Julie Beck, says her desire is to send a message about the diversity and strength of Latter-day Saint women."

By sending them a book whose message is all about conformity and obeying?

Normal women are allowed to be as diverse as they want and play anywhere between the first base line and third base line. In the Morg, the first base line has been moved in to line up with the right side of second base, and the third base line now lines up with the left side of second base.

You're still free to be as diverse as you want anywhere within the first and third base lines. The trick is convincing women that this is the way baseball is played, and that the boundaries have always been even with second base. If that's the only baseball field "diamond" you've ever seen, it would seem "normal."

" I'm so sorry you feel that the expectations of women are too high in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. But Heavenly Father expects the best of you and me and every one of his children. He knows we're far from perfect and all he asks is that we try. He'll always love you for who you are but like every good parent he wants you to be the best you and nobody else. I'm excited for this book, I think it will inspire women and motivate them to keep pushing through adversity."

Wait a minute...

Shouldn't they already know about their diversity and strength if they're Latter-Day Saint women? I mean, they're living it -- right?

Kind of weird when someone has to write a book to tell you all about yourself. Creepy too.

"Another way for women in the church to feel guilt -- cause most of them won't live up to the expectations in this book. I can hardly wait to get my copy. "

And this response to that op:

"I don't mean to offend you, but your statement can only be founded on flawed logic and I'll ask you to reconsider your views. Your statement is based on the idea that rules create unnecessary and harmful guilt.

1- not all guilt is bad. Should a murderer feel guilty? I would hate living in a world where all crime was guilt free. I can assure you, things would be far worse. This book is obviously not addressing murder, etc. But the concept is still the same, guilt isn't automatically bad. "

>> "The key message is that it really is a witness of women's divine roles and their worth and their relevance to our Heavenly Father. …">>

Bet they don't mention the relevance to a Heavenly Mother.

But then that would be difficult since there are so many Heavenly Mothers eh? Doesn't Heavenly Father have more wives than even Warren Jeffs, Brigham Young and Joseph Smith?

My DH just said the shortest chapter in _DAUGHTERS of My Kingdom_ is Heroines of the Book of Mormon.

How many YW under 18 have posted here in the last year alone? They know The Morg is a fraud/fabrication/corporation, yet they cannot make it known because they are still in school and live under their parents' rules. Most say they are making plans to exit TSCC at age 18.

TSCC is bleeding YW and they need to guilt them into conforming. In this day and age of independence, cell phones, texting, what YW wants to give up her identity and conform to impossible standards? So she can get married at 19 or 20 and become a baby making machine and follow her Phood husbands rules? The Boyz are in trouble. The Morg has too many cracks in the hull.

ohdear

If this shows up in the LDS section of books at the local Wally World, I might buy for curiosity purposes. I hope it doesn't have a secret chip in it that will notify the missionaries! That sounds like something out of "Get Smart."

I wanna see if there is a chapter on women's hairstyles, that women need to grow their hair long, so they can wash their husband's feet in the CK.

And I want to see if there is a universal pattern for prairie-style dresses, to be made in solid pastel colors only!

And I'd bet the rent that there is an entire section of the book dedicated to baking bread! Grow your own wheat, grind it by hand, collect yeast spores from the air!

I wonder if the author did any extensive research, and found a book published in 1975 by Marabel Morgan, titled, "Total Woman."

Ms Morgan is a fundamentalist Christian, and that book is her "recipe" for a Godly marriage.

SHE is the lady who suggested women dress up in "costumes" and greet Hubby when he comes home from work every night.

I'm sure she has no clue what to do if Wifey works too.

Oh yea. Another handout on how to make the perfect cookie cutter woman, telling them they aren't good enough, do more, obey more, shut your mouths, and put a damn smile on your face. IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

Why can't the church publish some sort of handout praising the church women on doing a good job and encouraging them to be the individuals they are? Because maybe they would start thinking for themselves and THAT is wrong.....

Another way of the church telling woman exactly how to live, behave, etc. Another way to let the women who don't fit the mold feel that they are worthless sinners and give the women of the ward an excuse to treat them as such. Way to go tscc.

Recipe for LDS woman:

ingredients: one unfrozen, unseasoned female. 1 serving platitudes.

set oven to bake. remove spine and cranial material from female. fillet and remove heart. replace heart with church propaganda. Stuff head cavity with platitudes. bake until docile. refrigerate and serve cold.

to refute the analysts and critics who are pounding away at the church's poor treatment of women as "less than" fully responsible adults.

Now they'll act like the accusations are old news and, why look! There's even a newly minted inspirational book focused on the girls and how plain and precious they are to the male leadership, the male pantheon of gods whose goddesses are so sacred they are completely overlooked in the din of "Praise to the Man."

And there will be one coming out next expressing the many prayers and constant fasting and praying for our gay brothers and sisters whom we love so much....and support in their celibate lives.

All I know is that no one better provide me a copy, because I will go bat shit crazy and put someone in their place. One of my last straws was when a well known "voice", spoke at a relief society dinner and said we needed to be more like Mary and not her sister Martha, because Martha was a complainer and Mary saw the bigger picture. He then proceeded to tell us that Mary the mother of Jesus is sealed to Heavenly Father. So is Mary the mother of Jesus, Heavenly Mother or just one of His wives? Women are nothing to the men in the church PERIOD.

There were three Marys in the New Testament.

Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus.
Mary Magdelene the adulteress.

Nothing worse than a caveman pontificating about women and he can't even figure out which one he's talking about.

She wasnt the adultress. Even though it says her name right in the story. Turns out the priest or whatever who was translating that story wanted to stick a name in it and pulled out poor Mary Magdelene's. She was actually a devout followers of Jesus and maybe intimatly linked to him. Atleast thats what I remember when I heard about it so long ago...like two years...

I watched a History Channel episode on the Bible and how it came to be the King James version. Besides being translated by biased and underhanded priests/monks/whatever, it was edited and large portions where destroyed or 'lost' all together.

Mind you, this info was from a time when the History Channel was reliable (ie. no alien wishwash) :) Makes it hard to trust anything anymore, though.

Doestnt mean the bible doesnt have good morals and stories. But they are just that- stories.

..this is going to find its way into the hands of some of my family members. They're going to swallow it, internalize and hate themselves for not measuring up.

Isn't it bad enough that they're all desperately trying to convince themselves and everyone else that cleaning the church buildings is "super fun family time"?

I hope it contains several chapters on how women of the kingdom deal with it when their Relief Society sisters marry their husbands.

How to avoid jealousy... How to organize your home so that each wife knows her rightful place in the sister-wife hierarchy... How to step-parent your sister-wive's children while instilling in those children respect for the divine role of motherhood...How to plan for polygamy in the celestial kingdom if you haven't been blessed with it here.

I should order a copy, then write a rebuttal and give both to my daughter when she turns 18. I want her to understand it is perfectly ok to be different if her heart is leading her to a different life.

Since my daughter is 18, I guess she'll be getting one too, 'cause "the book will be distributed to every adult Latter-day Saint woman across the globe".
And the irony of calling it a "recipe" on how to be an LDS woman. Way to keep 'em in the kitchen with an apron over a 50's dress, a string of pearls, and a perfect pot roast waiting in the oven. What a crock of shite!!
On the positive side, it'll just push my daughter out the door all the faster............

I turnd off the TV and left the room during Julie Beck's infamous conference talk from a few years ago. That was the last time I ever watched general conference or listened to anything from her.

The Good Old Boys and their Stepford Wives in Salt Lake have NO idea what my life is like.

It's better since I jumped off the perfection treadmill.
