Someone here mentioned the reason why the church is soo preoccupied with porn is because they don't want their members to extensively use the internet....

So is porn the gateway to knowledge for mormons????

Really though, my question is...BEFORE the internet, was the mormon church preaching against the likes of Playboy magazine, Penthouse, Hustler etc????

Or was it only AFTER the internet and the "quick" access to porn (or antimormon info...a.k.a. the TRUTH) that the church started preaching against "porn"??

The LDS Church has always preached against viewing pornography. Most churches do. Porn is just more easily available now than it was in the past so it is more urgent concern for Christian churches than it was before.

I've never heard of other mainstream churches talking about porn anywhere near as much as TSCC.

I agree with the OP, most of the talks given by tscc leaders focuses only on internet pornography, they seem to ignore movies, live shows, magazines, tv channels etc.

I also feel that most of the advice they give about internet porn probably is meant to divert members from viewing church history online.

I remember pre-internet being encouraged to boycott the local video store that had a "back room". There was a lot of obsession over the evils of pornography that had NOTHING to do with the Internet.
