I saw the following posted in a newsletter from the Wisconsin Conference of the UCC and thought some here might find it of interest. The Mormon apologists spend lots of energy trying to make the Mayan culture fit Mormon theology. Here's another approach.

8) Join Mark Stahlhut and others from First Congregational UCC – La Crosse on an adult study trip to Guatemala January 13 to 22, 2012. See first-hand how Guatemala’s Mayan population has remained culturally vibrant and strong in the midst of poverty and racist genocide. Learn about Mayan culture and spirituality, human rights issues, and how global economic policies continue to oppress these people. There is also plenty of free time included to explore artist’s markets, meet local people, and sample delicious cuisine.
The trip is being planned by the Center for Global Education at Augsburg College. Their mission is to provide cross-cultural educational opportunities in order to foster critical
