This is an edited comment delivered during an LDS Women’s Conference. The topic was pornography.

While reading it, I was reminded of how some Mormons become so wrapped up in their own personal quests for glory that they begin replacing the need for emotion with the solitude of their religion and the slow, dark path of excluding others who do not share their beliefs.

This edit need not be directed exclusively at the lonely fortress built around the LDS faithful; it fits in well with just about any situation where a person begins walking down a path which ultimately requires their soul in exchange for freedom:

“Congratulations! You…are buying this whole scheme - hook, line, and sinker. Let’s just have this be our little secret. No one needs to know. No one will ever be able to tell. When people tell you that you are looking different, darker, or talking differently, or that you are more difficult to get along with, just get angry at them…Actually, you will soon be ready to advance to our total-destruction-of-the-senses line. You, too, will soon be past feeling.” (Wendy L. Watson, 1999 Women’s Conference, speech entitled “Personal Purity and Intimacy”)
