LDS, Inc isn't unique in this regard, but they bleed their members dry financially. If it weren't for donations of money, time and talent, TSCC would dry up and blow away. It provides no goods or services like legitimate businesses do. It does no research to find cures for diseases. It not only takes member's money, it dictates every other aspect of their life from who to marry down to what underwear they need to wear...and CHARGE them for it!

They've got quite the scam going, I say.

continually lecture their hosts about how they're not feeding the parasite enough.

It's like having a tapeworm pop out 2-3 times per week to scold you for not giving the tapeworm more of the kind of nutrients it likes. "You need to lengthen your stride. You need to follow the tapeworm's 'Word of Wisdom.' Ten percent of your food is just the basic sacrifice you have to do to prove that you are worthy of the tapeworm. You also need to help massage around the tapeworm to make it more comfortable--and you definitely need to stop thinking about trying to remove the tapeworm from your body. That's just plain evil and will make you miserable for all eternity."

It's often been said about TSSC and those who take offense from it, "It's not the church, it's the people". Well, the fact is, the church IS the people. The LDS church is entirely run by a "lay" clergy and their strident efforts to enlist member support.

Mormonism has no soup kitchens or homeless shelters. The bishop's storehouse can help take care of it's own, but isn't really available to the rest of the world. The closest things it offers in the name of "charity" are Deseret Industries (clothing thrift stores) and ordering RS sisters to make casseroles for sick or otherwise indisposed ward members. Yes, the RS is a driving force behind the "parasite" principle practiced so widely within TSSC. You are not asked IF you can make a dinner for a family of 8, you are pretty much TOLD. If a person has the audacity to "just say no", the RS pres or whoever made the request is left gaping in disbelief. One way or another, someone is guilted or otherwise manipulated to make the dinner or do some other task above and beyond the call of duty.

The church is a big, rolling, life-sucking force of nature. It's taken on a life of its own, and really bears no true resemblence to the person who's supposed to be at it's head. The organization has taken the "JC" right out of TCOJCOLDS, IMO.
