brad pitt and angelina jolie, *2 people*, gave 1/4 of the entire lds contribution, IN CASH. now compare this with the estimated value of the lds church, $100+ billion, and a member base of 13 MILLION people.
(norway, a country of 4 million people, gave $35 million)

now, how much of the 4 million reported by the lds public affairs department was a calculated "man hours" value and how much of that number was money/resources donated by individual members and not by the church?

why dont we just look at the lds financial records to see? oh yeah, we cant, they dont let ANYONE look at them...

Look, stop beating on the Church about money.

It's hard enough funding a shopping centre, residential complexes, office buildings, hotels, hunting reserves, general authority stipends, Anti gay campaigns, handbook reprints, radio stations, insurance bailouts, sanitisation of historical documents, propaganda (oopsy meant to say 'news outlets') and trying to get Romney elected during tough economic times.

How can we be expected to help out some poor and needy people when we've got all this of the Lords work (and more) to focus on?

Please give generously
The First (and there's a reason for calling us first) Presidency

www.aolnews.com/world/article/no-sanctuary-at-leogane-haiti-mormon-church-during-hurricane-tomas/19706704

It is already gone as of this morning. But late last night on the opening headlines of FoxNews was a story about an LDS chapel in Haiti not letting any nonmembers in during this last set of storms even though they were the ONLY building around that was not flooded. The bishop just keeps saying it is all about someone else who makes the decisions - another "committee" is responsible! This is a sad example for the LDS church. Any normal christian church, or just people in general with a heart would take in anyone they could that needed it during a time of major crisis without caring what someone else thought. It is our duty to help others in desperate need. As an evangelical married to an exmo we strive desperately as a couple to give to others in need despite their background or religion. We feel just as Christ surrounded himself with the castoffs/poor/needy from society so should our treatment be to others in need and through our giving we hope they see the true grace of God.
The members comments on this article are terrible. They all defend the church and refer back to the LDS website on giving to Haiti. They really do not see any problem with the situation at all - they as usual only defend the corporation.

on the ldspublicaffairs page on youtube, there's a video about hurricane katrina where the stake president says:
"i see the church as an organization that doesnt look at who you are and what you belong to, but 'what do you need and how can we serve'?"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6giBfS5VyeM

i guess they've changed their policies since then.

No the policies haven't changed - but the spokes person is no longer dyslexic...

"I see the Church as an organisation that doesn't look at who you are (tell the gays and the blacks and the haitians) and what you belong to but 'what do we need and how can you serve'...
