I have a friend here in the (southeast) who is always bragging about being related to Mormon royalty. He is related to the Hinckley clan and in any discussions about religion he will say something like "when I was talking to my cousin GBH, he said..."

He has had run in with the SP, calling the SP president to repentance and telling him he will go and talk to his 'cousin' family if the SP doesn't repent.

This guy, who is also in the military called me a couple days ago asking me to pick him up out in front of the county jail.

He and his wife got into a big argument and she called 911, the cops came, and he spent the weekend in jail. Then he was escorted up to the nearest military base to live for the next 60 to 90 days because he's a current major, and can't be within 100 feet of his family for the next 90 days or so.

As far as his membership in the church, which he seems to use as a big prize, since he's 'royalty' in his mind. What do you suspect will happen to him?

He will have to go to court on domestic violence, so he could end up with more jail time, I don't know.

He has crossed the Stake President the wrong way in the past, so if anything disciplinary happens, he might throw the book at him.

This guys long term dream was to become a bishop and eventual GA, however, if his wife leaves him, which she has been contemplating, that will never happen.

So on the one hand he is related to the Hinckley clan, on the other he has pissed off the SP, what do you think will happen?

I hope the military NAILS HIM TO THE WALL...

If he is a Major in the AF, then he is an officer. He is sworn to protect. He is living on post/base because he has a military version of a restraining order.

Unfortunately, a lot of times, depending on who he knows and who he blows in his chain of command, this will just get swept under the rug. Kind of like in the church...it all depends on how deep his connections are.

I patronized the holiest of shopping centers in Provo, the Riverwoods Mall, and met a descendant of GBH. The jury is out on whether her cascading neuroticism was nature or nurture, though.
