Old-school yes, but feels better as it begins to melt, and it can double as food storage ;-)

Thanks for the tip, I just added that to my grocery list.

I'd personally add some sea salt myself.

You don't have to worry about staying warm.

Do vitamins stay good for very long? There are only 2 things that could be counted as fruits/vegetables (raisins and jalepenos).

No coffee?

Oh, hell no. If coffee sits around for more than 2 days in MY house, it's a miracle.

I've got about 3 solid months of food. If the situation warrants needing more than 3 months of food then it's not a good idea to stay in the city anyway.

2 years food supply scenarios are complete WROL and I think it would be easier to invade queen creek and raid the kolobians' food stores than keep my own.

But there are a million reasons to have a least a little bit of food stored away.

My stash:

Canned goods rotated and used with surplus that could last perhaps a week.
Dried goods good for another week or so.
Some water purifying tablets.
Real silver coins for trading.
A rifle
500 rounds of ammo
Two large water containers

Outlook:

I'm good for any short term disaster other than flooding (try to be ready for that!).

Actual collapse of civilization results in my death by roving gangs within a couple weeks.

of course Prep H, and Depends, and recordings of Matlock episodes and my 78 record collection. Those are my comfort items. Sacred not secret.

FYI: Crisco, butter and most animal fat lubricants will eat holes right through latex condoms.

Better keep that Astroglide on the list for sexy time, and save the Crisco for lubricating the frying pans at dinner time.
