Since there is general agreement (among rational human beings) that LDS Corp’s church division meets the criteria of a ‘cult,’ shouldn’t their temple square area be called “the main LDS Salt Lake City compound”? Also, shouldn’t each of the temple grounds around the world also be referred to as “compounds” (such as the Manti compound, the Boise compound, etc.)? The media uses this term quite effectively when discussing other cults. Shouldn’t it also be used for the church division of the LDS Corp?

"The media uses this term quite effectively when discussing other cults."

The media uses this term when branding groups they decide they don't like. Anybody's farm becomes a compound when they are out to get you. Makes it easier for the sheeple to dis-identify with the target.

...and the government uses it also when they want to identify and brand a target...

You know going to the temple is "Higher Education."

It is like the morg has a little Jim Jones Temple places all over the world. But the Koolaid isn't free. You have to pay for the privilege of being poisoned.

Although the word "compound" has a negative association when associated with a cult, esp since Waco, the word applies to a facility with mixed use, coming from the common definition of "compound" in chemistry:

# To produce or create by combining two or more ingredients or parts: pharmacists compounding prescriptions.

To qualify as a compound, a temple would have to have people living and working there, or people working and worshipping there.

The Mormons are careful to stay tax-free with the temples being designated solely for the purpose of religious use.

Mormon fundamentalists don't care about that, so their properties include residences, places of worship, agriculture, animal husbandry, etc. They are true compounds.

Add the mall with condos to the picture? Live, work, shop, go to the temple, all within a how many block radius?
