Naw, it's a donation.

Someone might try to take them to court, claiming some type of duress or pressure, but I doubt it get very far.

In our case, it was also a tax deduction - charitable deduction on our tax returns each year - which helped us to get a nice refund, which I called: Tithing Refunds! (I never lost my sense of humor!)

You have 3 options:
1. The church does not accept tithing from money gained by illegal or morally questionable means. You can lie and claim the money was from your gambling/pimp/pyramid or Bonneville Communications scheme, and hope you get the money back.

2.You can go back to church and ask for welfare assistance.

3.You can send your children to BYU and get a 50% discount on their tuition. Its a cheap education no matter how you slice it.

Oops, there's a fourth option:
Do nothing and get over it.

Richard Packman has written on the subject and posted it on his site.

http://packham.n4m.org/lawsuit.htm

He concludes his interpretation of the law with:

"CONCLUSION:

I'm sorry I sound so pessimistic. We must finally admit that we were fools, and the law was not intended to protect fools from their own stupidity."

Whilst Investigating, I asked if the church refunds Tithes to anyone if they later find out the church isn't true. I was told there are no refunds. So I said, in that case then it's important that I investigate fully and make sure before I pay any tithe, just in case. It kind of got a bit of a reluctant smile from the missionaries.

Anyway I donated to fasts and mostly humanitarian aid instead. At least hopefully my donations did some good somewhere and not contributed to the church's secret payroll for it's GA's.

I asked numerous times for annual accounts and never got any.

Instead it was suggested that I pray about the Book of Mormon. You know the Kind of thing!

It was suggested to me several times that I should try tithing, the idea being I would get the rewards etc including financial?
Never made sense to me to do it for that reason and I couldn't see it was even logical. In fact all of the examples of financial rewards for tithing that I was told were simply stupid.

Really glad I didn't tithe as that would have only added to the anger of being duped.

to me, if you are paying for a service and you don't get it, you deserve a refund. they promised me blessings and this and that...i got none of that. i want my money back. that simple.

thank goodness for your tips and reading material.

i was counting on that money though.

fortunately i checked this post through my shiny new iphone just before pulling my discover card to buy this new maserati i had my eye on. i guess i'll have to take the bus now back to the mansion.
