Some kid just walked up to me while I was smoking on my porch...

He said "hello" and that's it. He then handed me a crumpled up paper that was printed from a computer that read:

"hi. My name is so-and-so. I'm in the 10th grade at __high school. I'm in jrotc and any donation would be good."




Here were my initial thoughts:

1. Talk to me...especially if you are trying to be a future leader in our armed forces.

2. WTF????? (see #1)

Depends on your age. The military is still looking for good people.

I did ROTC my first two years of college and loved it.

Exactly! This was my issue with the encounter.

He'd never make it as an enlisted man...

I bet someone told him that would be a solution to going up to strangers.
When I was in Jr. and Sr High school, I was very willing to flunk instead of making any speech or presentation.

The teachers usually compromised by saying I could just read it from a paper or pass it out. One class has student input, and one student asked, "why do you make her do this? She hates it, we hate seeing her have to do it. It's not like she's stupid and can't do it. Knock it off." I wish I knew who wrote that [much love]

So what I'm saying is someone probably handed him the paper and kikced his but out the door...

At least the kid is trying. What do you want them to do, kick him out?

Donation for what? Why does JROTC need donations? That's my WTF.
