That is also the thinking of members of the AA faith. It can be dangerous.

And I never heard anyone on AA claim that everyone that drank is an alcoholic either. That article is for people that are in AA and not directed at people outside of AA. It makes no claims about the drinking habits of people outside of AA.

I do know a lot of AA'ers that have a hard time being around people that drink, I am not one of them. I'll even serve alcohol If I have some left over from cooking. While there are not that many AA members that serve alcohol, there are many than have absolutely no problem with people around them drinking. Well, not as long as the drinking is truly social drinking.

It seems you are rather sensitive about the subject, perhaps some people in AA have been critical of your drinking habits in particular?

It is of course NOT what AA (faith or otherwise) says.

But that doesn't bother Deco.

Just take no notice.

Shoot, Bill W. himself referred to such sorts as "bleeding deacons," an affectionate put-down of their slightly over the edge tactics. AA being a program of attraction rather that promotion, I never really had trouble avoiding such sorts since I didn't want what they had. Of course some said the same about me, and that was their right, too... And the one or two times I did encounter "AA Nazis," I usually learned something, and none of them ever offered me a drink...

The Second Tradition: "For our group purpose, there is but one ultimate authority, a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern."

Okay, a bit dated and sexist; there are "spin-offs" that use the phrase "God as God may express God" and some such, but the "default" setting on prounouns is the masculine gender...

Now lessee, here are some RFM folks I've sat down with while they were drinking and sometimes even bought them a beer or two: Deconstructor; Richard Packham; Insomniac (remember him?); Theo Hirsch; Et in Utah Ego; Jesus Smith; Wine Country Girl; Sideon; TLC; Sue; Síóg; Toto; Cricket, Tal Bachmann, JeffH...

And that one alcoloic drink is close to surely ending up on slum row as a comfirmed falling down drunk.

When I first got pregnant my mom reminded me that I shouldn't drink alcohol while pregnant. Which pretty much hurt my feelings, realizing that she felt the need to tell me that. Like I was uneducated or that I couldn't control myself.

I visited my family over the summer and was watching tv with my grandpa. A rehab commercial comes on saying, "if you or a loved one has a problem with alcohol, etc..." At the end of the commercial my grandpa says, "Anyone who drinks alcohol has a problem with alcohol." Really irritated me, by the way.

Exmo x3 years, Mo x40+ years, and last night I was talking to my ex-spouse via telephone regarding a school activity for one of the kids. She is still very much a TBM. I guess I was a little tired after a long day, and I was coming across a little exhausted in my speech mannerism. She knows that I like wine on special occassions now, and that I have had, what, 3 beers in the last three years. I am not a drinker by any measure, nor had I had any alcholic beverage in the last 2 weeks. I mean seriously folks, I doubt exmo's have a propensity toward alcoholism.

She says, "I know you like to drink now, have you been drinking? You sound drunk? Why don't you call me back when you've sobered up?" I said, "What are you talking about..I drink, rarely, if ever." She says, "Oh yeah right..I know you had some wine at a restaurant a few weeks ago..the kids told me." LOL. Stupid mormons.

That kinda sounds like my dad and brother. They don't think I'm an alcoholic but they're always teasing me like I'm a big drinker when I only drink a couple of times a year.

I'm still working through this one with my kids. My wife and I don't drink at all but everytime we go to a resturant the kids point out somebody who has a beer or a glass of wine and make a comment something like, "Let's be sure to leave before they get on the road."
I explain to them that there are many ways to not be 100% when you're behind the wheel. They're probably thinking something similar. "Look at that guy with four kids. Let's be sure to leave before they get on the road."

There are several reports of him drinking, including in the Carthage jail. He must have been a falling down, gutter crawling drunk. Right?

My father was alcoholic, and she "knows" I'm an alcoholic, and that our drinking kids are prone to alcoholism because my father was alcoholic. There's a lot of hypocrisy going on there because her brother recently died an alcoholic and drug addict, but her side of the family is clean. Anyway, when I was "falling away from the church" (her lingo) she found a hotel receipt when I was on a business trip in N. Germany. I got back to the hotel late and ordered a meal to be sent up to my room with a glass of red wine so I could sleep better. It freaked her out and she watched me for months looking for signs of stumbling and drunkenness. That's real pathetic.

My TBM SIL was acting like everyone was so shitfaced at my sister's wedding reception. They had a cash bar. She kept staring down anybody that was standing there having a drink. She was talking about it afterwards saying it was a drunkfest. Actually, most people had at least one to two drinks and they were dancing and enjoying the celebration. That's what takes place sometimes at normal receptions, people actually having a good time.

So by their line of thinking, their Lord and Savior was also an alcoholic since his first documented miracle was to make wine out of water.

that if someone drinks regularly they can become an alcoholic. If you've lived with it, or seen it happen, it can be scary.
There is a genetic component.
I am quite sure that every Mormon doesn't think that someone who drinks is an alcoholic. Some might think that, but I think it comes from fear, mostly.

And anybody who occasionally watches porn is "addicted to porn"...

I think anybody (like my TBM brother) who can't even go on vacation without finding a local Mormon ward to go to on Sunday is addicted to church.

That is a much worse addiction.

See my article at http://packham.n4m.org/news1.htm "Government Approves Popular Folk Remedy, With Cautions"

Absolutely. Anyone who thinks the church addiction isn't destructive is still just looking for the next mormon fix and not using their brain cells yet.

The church can destroy self esteem, ambition, the ability to reason and simple joy as well as any drug out there. The only thing it lacks is the ability to be melted and put in a syringe.

There is a huge difference between alcoholism and porn. Unfortunately simce over 90% of US rehabs use 12 step and AA theology, they convince people they have a 'disease' (that actually is concocted, as alcoholism is a behavior rather than a disease)

The AA faith always claims alcoholism is a medical 'disease', conveniently citing the AMA, yets does not include the tremendous lobbying effort for the 'disease' declaration, and the fact it is the only 'disease' that actually required a vote in the AMA, and did not pass until the third vote.

The problem is that the AA faith convinces people they are powerless, which morphs into helplessness. They actually train people that they are powerless in this area.

The unfortunate part of this is that people under the influence of the AA faith have a tendency to drink harder than thoose who are not. The Europeans have embraced 'harm reduction' and also the very successful Sinclair Method. Unlike the US which nearly totally uses the dogma, superstition, and folklore of the very ineffective AA faith, Europe has seen rates of addictions fall drastically.

The bottom line is people are being killed in drunk driving incidents by people that have been wrongly trained they have a concocted incurable brain disease. The substance abuse system in the US is the worst medical disaster in the modern histroy of medicine. It is an inexcusable situation that the AA faith is profiting from through its business arm, the recovery indsutry cartel.

Follow the money when you mention deaths.

http://battleforwhiteclay.org/?p=1377
"The lobbyists testified against a proposal to address the long festering, alcohol-related problems linked to Whiteclay."

We just buried another friend last week. She wasn't even 40 years old. Cirrhosis.

so "if someone drinks regularly they can become an alcoholic?" that's ridiculous. if that were true then 95% of Europe would be falling down drunks. i have many European friends that have a drink an evening, occasionally 2 and they are not alcoholics.

Simply part of the Mormon tendency/need to label something they disagree with or find uncomfortable:

Drinks: Alcoholic
Ever viewed porn: Addicted to porn
Doesn't believe in Mormonism: anti-mormon
etc, etc, etc

I agree. Mormons think everything is black and white. No inbetween. Every minor sin is the gateway drug to addiction. That's why they remain so strick. One toe off the straight and narrow path and you're screwed. The concentration is broken. You might discover an open mind. Which will lead to guilt and fear at the thought of leaving TSCC.. so we fall back in line repentance, shame, and another jolt of purity and bliss. i.e. ignorance.

Sorry that was suppose to be with sayhitokolob4me

This is kind of funny timing.

On the nearby stream on google+ some guy posted a pic of a bunch of out-of-state beer with a comment about stocking up for the Utah drought.

Second guy commenting says something about his grandfather being an alcoholic and it ripped the family apart.

My first thought was "Mormon"

I have many "addictions" and I love them all!

Drinks? I usually have 1-3 every night.
Porn? Tons of it.
Tobacco? 2-3 pinches of chew a day.
Family Guy? All seasons on dvd.
Hamburgers? Well you can just call me The Hamburgler.

Give in to your crutches, life's more sweet ;)
And no, I hardly consider myself alcoholic.
