I just want to say something nasty to every comment I see. Very tempted. Ugh. It's starting already...

"Thought of the day: I challenge everyone and myself to share our excitement about General Conference this weekend with those we talk to-friends, co-workers, family, whomever! It's such a joyful thing to share the fact that a true prophet of God and apostles are on the Earth today and they speak Heavenly Father's messages to us for our time and our lives. What a blessing! :)"

I'm sure this is just the beginning of the slew of annoying ass posts I'm going to have to see. GAG ME.

Oh yuck, un-friend! just kidding. But you know whats going through their heads, they either want to show how spiritual they are, or are trying to get a non-member to feel the spirit and be converted.

You can reply: "Isn't it wonderful? I will be watching every session so that I can hear of their divine experiences and the prophecies that I'm sure will be communicated to us"

It's easy. Or unfriend them, or unsubscribe from their posts.

I just want to say something like, oh yes! So grateful for a true prophet of God - remember when we were all warned about the economic crash? Katrina? Haiti? Japan? Oh shit wait. Refresh my memory as to the last prophecy? Revelation?

Wait what nothing comes to mind? Yeah.

Seriously it's the same old bullshit over and over. Don't call them prophets, seers and revelators if they can't fucking prophecy, see, or reveal.

When they say things like that quote, ENCOURAGE them. The real world would consider someone completely insane for attending church for ten hours in one weekend.

And I've already unfriended at least one person for making an inane cheerleading comment about conference. I look forward to a bunch more this weekend.

It is so therapeutic to just hide posts or mark them as spam. Ads can be deleted then marked offensive. Friend invites to GC you can respond "no" to and if it gets too bad, just become a fan of Starbucks, Hooters, or Jack Daniels. Seriously, hitting the delete button is great - like deleting the Mormon themselves from your life.

Facebook is a waste of time.

This is when you hide all the posts by that user for a while. You can un-hide them later. (Or not.) They won't know, and it will relieve your mind.

It's hilarious that they're excited about something so boring. It reminds me of Grandmother's Song, by Steve Martin:

Be courteous, kind and forgiving,
Be gentle and peaceful each day,
Be warm and human and grateful,
And have a good thing to say.

Be thoughtful and trustful and childlike,
Be witty and happy and wise,
Be honest and love all your neighbors,
Be obsequious, purple, and clairvoyant.

Be pompous, obese, and eat cactus,
Be dull, and boring, and omnipresent,
Criticize things you don't know about,
Be oblong and have your knees removed.

Be tasteless, rude, and offensive,
Live in a swamp and be three dimensional,
Put a live chicken in your underwear,
GET ALL EXCITED AND GO TO YAWNING FESTIVAL.

Be courteous, kind and forgiving,
Be gentle and peaceful each day,
Be warm and human and grateful,
And have a good thing to say.

Be thoughtful and trustful and childlike,
Be witty and happy and wise,
Be honest and love all your neighbors,
Be obsequious, purple, and clairvoyant.

Be tasteless, rude, and offensive,
Live in a swamp and be three dimensional,
Put a live chicken in your underwear,
Go into a closet and suck eggs!

Seriously, when I have done something uplifting and exciting, I can't wait to share it. I don't need to be encouraged to share.

I agree with MJ. No one has ever had to twist my arm or guilt me into sharing something truly wonderful and exciting in my life.

I didn't make myself clear in the OP. I know I can hide and ignore the GC posts that annoy me. I dont really want to though. I wanted to know different responses you would say to stupid comments like that. There is actually another thread going on right now that pretty much asked the same question. The responses are hilarious :)

My honest (not hilarious) response is that I like to exult in the glorious miracle of life--whatever it is at the moment. I love to ramble, and I've often done this with missionaries at my door. I start off on my new religion or my cousin who is running for public office--and then I ask them for donations! This stops them dead!

I have the same problem as you--but with e-mails and blogs, instead of Fakebook (I won't go there, either.)

I plan to hike up into the gorgeous autumn colors, and write many paragraphs about this wonderful world God has created for all of us, because he love us unconditionally...bla-bla. I intend to include photographs, too! I can out-nauseate the nauseators!

I honestly thought it said excrement instead of excitement. ;o)

When people have to TRy...this HARD to reassure themselves of their convictions...and to push this reassurance onto others...All I can think is:

"he doth protest too much"
