I'm still freaked out from watching Sunday afternoon conference. I knew it was weird, but I don't remember it being *that* weird as a teenager, and it didn't seem that weird the last time I watched conference a few years ago.

Could Monson be any creepier? I don't think so.

"I love you," he sez, looking bored and pausing for effect. Ew, ew, ew. Dude makes my skin crawl like no one ever has. I'm not surprised to learn he's a big fat liar.

Anyway, watching conference was one of the weirdest experiences I've had in my adult life. I'd put it right up there with getting stoned and watching Time Bandits on the big screen in 1981.

One thing that stood out for me was the frequent use of the phrases "our beloved prophet" and "our dear prophet." When did that become the norm?

I don't remember hearing those phrases as a teenager in the 1970s. If I had, I'm sure I'd have noticed the one guy being glorified and wondered why it was OK.

Kim Jong-Il of North Korea is still referred to as the "Dear Leader." His father was referred to as the "Great Leader."

Dear Leader, Dear Prophet...it all smells the same. Hitler was also referred to as the "beloved leader."

Stalin was both a dear leader (or "dear Stalin") and a beloved leader:
