Makes sense. Most men will pay good money to see lesbians in action. Whereas I can't remember ever having a conversation with a woman that she'd pay good money to see gay men in action, I know many women that enjoy a good lesbian flick
No need to respond that gay men will pay to see gay porn as that's a minority subset of "men" as stated above.
Just some thoughts in response to your question...
Neither gays nor lesbians are allowed to serve openly in the military. Also, neither group's marriages are recognized by the US government or most states.
I think there is similar pressure to remain closeted whether you're a gay man or lesbian, especially in TSCC.
Both groups are highly stereotyped.
I don't think my TBM family cut me any slack because i was a woman instead of a gay man coming out. Both groups are equally damned in their eyes.
I think guys are more likely to get beat up in Middle School and High School, but lesbians are subjected to shunning which is also emotionally damaging.
Sure, maybe folks are more likely to enjoy a film that features two women kissing instead of two men, but that doesn't mean we're more accepted by society.
If anything, I think the combined effects of sexism and homophobia actually make lesbians less accepted than gay men. They at least have the advantages of male privilege, whether or not they are gay.
I'm also in agreement with what "impure and unnatural" said above; there's still plenty of discrimination...
Jackie Biskupski has been a member of the Utah House of Representatives since 1999; obviously she's from a very liberal district within Salt Lake itself...
Then there's the matter of the status of women in general; Olene Walker replaced Mike Leavitt as Utah's governor and was very popular, but as soon as Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. stepped in, voters left her behind in droves... And of course Huntsman didn't even finish his term before being "called" as U.S. Ambassador to China, and the result was the global warning denier, Gary Herbert, who made sure his campaign ads made him look like the proto-typical Mormon bishop...
I thought about it in the Marie post also. I thought that because in Mormon culture men have the priesthood, men are supposed to go on missions, men are supposed to be the top dog of the household etc. Then being a Gay male makes one not be almost everything that they are supposed to be, because they are "unworthy". They can't be openly Gay and have the priesthood or go on a mission. They can't be the leader of a family, even if they adopt, they won't have the priesthood etc.
If a Mormon women is Gay, she wasn't going to have the priesthood anyway, it wasn't so required that she go on a mission, she wasn't supposed to be the top dog of the family anyway, etc.
I don't agree with the lack of egalitarianism, but that's how it is there. So it seems to me that with being a Gay guy vs a Gay woman, the guy has more to lose. And therefore they would feel more pressure, and be more of an outcast.
