I always heard that if you didn't get married before you died, but you were worthy, you could be sealed to a husband in the after life.

But when I read DC132, it seems like you can't:

16 Therefore, when they are out of the world they neither marry nor are given in marriage; but are appointed angels in heaven, which angels are ministering servants, to minister for those who are worthy of a far more, and an exceeding, and an eternal weight of glory.

17 For these angels did not abide my law; therefore, they cannot be enlarged, but remain separately and singly, without exaltation, in their saved condition, to all eternity; and from henceforth are not gods, but are angels of God forever and ever.

If you add that to the bible:

Mark 12:25
25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.

Where do get this idea that worthy people will be sealed in heaven???

Also DC 132:15 says

15 Therefore, if a man marry him a wife in the world, and he marry her not by me nor by my word, and he covenant with her so long as he is in the world and she with him, their covenant and marriage are not of force when they are dead, and when they are out of the world; therefore, they are not bound by any law when they are out of the world.

This shows that sealing for the dead can't happen.

So how does the church harmonize these scriptures with what they teach???

If DC 132 were true, then Mother Teresa and Paul the apostle would not make it into the highest part of heaven because they died sinlge. Some ho-hum mediocre by the book Mormon couple would out rank them in heaven.

So weird.

If you were a normal Christian (or Jew or Muslim) you'd THINK that "this world" referred to your life here on earth, right? Well, Mormons, in order to shoe-horn in their doctrine, extend the phrase "this world" to mean your life hear on earth AND A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF THE HEREAFTER.

So all the baptisms for the dead and endowments for the dead and the sealings for the dead will have their effect in the "spirit prison" for all of those who have gone before and are spending millenia awaiting their final assignment to one of the three degrees of glory.

As Baura said, mos believe this world includes "The Day of this Life" from Amulek's words in the BoM ( http://lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/34.32-33?lang=eng#31 )

(In my best TBM voice) That's exactly right. When they are out of this world they can't do it themselves. That's why we have to do it for them.

That's right. They have a choice to make to accept or reject what the ordinances that we do for them after their dead. If they do not abide in the law, they cannot be gods like us.
If you add that to the bible:

Uh huh. Again, that's why we have to do it here on earth, above the grave prior to their resurrection. We baptise them and seal them to their families.

That's right. If a guy isn't sealed to his wife during this life and isn't sealed to her, then they can't live together in heaven. Only when we do it for them can they be sealed to one another for all eternity. You aren't listening are you? Man hasn't the power to seal himself to heaven. He either has to have it done by the power of the Penishood before death, or we can do it after death and then he can choose or reject it.

Mother Teresa an Paul will have the same opportunity to accept or reject the ordinance we do for them. It's all fair and even Steven. Not "so weird".

Just sayin'..
