Whenever a Mormon claims the LDS church is NOT a cult, I'd be really curious to know what their definition of a cult really is. Anyone ever have this discussion with a Mormon?
Spoken to my tbm gf about this recently. She seems to think that because the church "isn't doing any harm to anyone" it's not a cult. I guess u can't expect someone who's In a cult to realize their situation, otherwise cults wouldn't exist.

A great follow up question to ask your tbm gf would be "Do you think people who are a part of a cult think it is doing harm?"
Back in high school, when we were studying the evils of communism, I realized it had a lot in common with the United Order. I asked Dad. He said, yes they're similar but that the church's version was good because, well it was the church's version.
I learned about propaganda, censorship, thought control, suppression of dissent, etc. I brought it up in seminary, how the church did things that looked like that. The teacher said that it was different with the church, because the church is true.
I saw a post on facebook recently that said something like, "I don't know why people are saying we are a cult! We are not a cult! We are Christians who believe in Jesus Christ!" Apparently just the fact that you believe in Jesus makes your religion not a cult...
Yeah I've seen these posts going around facebook as well. Of course they don't want to believe they are in a cult. They believe that they belong to the true church.
