Just wondering, does your letter have a number on it, like 250,029? LOL I so want to know how many are jumping ship every year!

Dear Brother Darth Jesus:

this letter is to notify you that, in accordance with your request, your name has been removed from the membership of the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints.

should you desire to become a member of the church in the future, the local bishop or branch president in your area will be happy to help you.

sincerely,
confidential records

I just got mine too. I've been so busy recently that I barely paid attention...glad to see that at least you are celebrating properly! Congratulations!

how long did it take yours to arrive? mine was about 3 weeks.

i'm wondering if they are expediting the overall process. before, from what i've read, it took 60 days or longer even if you stated you didn't want any grace period.

this might imply that more and more people are resigning and that they needed a more efficient system: from a formal letter to a simple email was one of those steps maybe. from 8 weeks to 3 might be another.

I don't remember what day I mailed it in, I posted on here about it so I guess I could look it up. I think it took close to 60 days from the day I sent the email to the day I got the final letter.

Congratulations, Darth Jesus, and Sexismyreligion! This is a huge step, but a happy, positive one! May many children, family, and friends follow you out!

It took me 9 months, seven years ago. My bishop stalled, asking for some "mandatory" (the Priesthood has NO authority) 90-day grace period. I had put in writing, plus I had told my bishop several times, that I did not want to wait, the kids and I were being harrassed, and that we could never change our minds after learning the Truth. Finally, I called Greg Dodge, for the third time, and this time I threatened a lawsuit (for the physical abuse). A week after the threat, we got our confirmation letter.

The cult has come a long way, to a simple e-mail, and a letter of confirmation about a month later. Ha-ha! I like to think that all the resignations are draining away too much time, effort, and morale.
