some Context on Eastern Washington (benefit of those who've never been to WA/OR)
geographically & culturally-politically, both OR & WA are a bit alike:
western is wet & liberal, Eastern is a bit like UT & S.E. Idaho: High Plains; dry & conservative. I'm sure lots of former UT/ID farmers feel at home there. In general, eastern are agriculturally oriented.
Yakima, Wenatchee, & a few others are heavily ag: wheat & fruits. tri-cities econ is Mixed. Hanford drew lots of science-types. Spokane is 'a bit' more liberal, but Not Much. Moses Lake has been called 'Boeing, Eastern WA style'. they (still?) train pilots there, and aviation is the BIG DEAL at the community college. If the wind ever stopped blowing at M.L. it would scare the xxxx out of EVERYONE...
